A perfectly fine film that has really nothing to add to what has often been explored in other films on Sherlock Holmes. The film's focus is ostensibly on a mystery that Holmes failed to resolve when younger, but this is merely a catalyst to exploring the character's acceptance of the gradual loss of his abilities and his realisation that there is value in his life beyond that. The film doesn't really offer any new angle on the character, yet it is worth spending time in the company of Ian McKellen and Laura Linney who both give great performances.

A nice relaxed movie for when you've got nothing else to do. And you will learn something about wasps and stuff. :)

@Peter Long. Supposing that you're viewing an HDRip copy, it may be contained in a video codec incompatible with your phone.

Effective and affecting. A three-hander where all are truly excellent.

A good film? Elementary dear viewer. Ian McKellen was fine as always, and a great performance from young Parker.

The extraordinary gifted often have carry the heaviest burden of all, their inability to forgive themselves for "self-perceived" mistakes affecting others, a state of self-inflicted melancholy. This movie brightly uses Holmes to bring about the existence of brightest's syndrome and the complexity recovering from it. Everyone he knew had passed away unable to reach him, only the unselfish care to and from kid was able to get Holmes to finally face his nightmare.

Ian McKellen, what a remarkable performance! Can't deny how he reminded me of my dear old Grandpa. Who could have thought to represent our Holmes in this vulnerable way! He never quite let me compare him with the textbook Sherlock. Although, I feel more empathetic towards him now more than ever. BBC and Bill Condon did really a great job doing this film.

Hard to watch a usually invulnerable character on a slow decline. Not bad. Weak ending.
