Finely nuanced drama is both hopeful and despairing. In the end, we are reminded of a common truth. Not everybody is good and not everybody is bad. Then there are those who fall in between. A very good film, with much to recommend it.

Carey Mulligan is the reason this film caught my attention. This is a savage tale of war, hate, brutal racism, hope and love. Great acting. Riveting storytelling if uncomfortable content. This film also employs an interesting narrative style I've not seen before, where the various characters, in turn, narrate their points of view - it was very effective, especially the two voices that conclude the story arch. I give this film a 7.5 (poignant) out of 10. [Historical Drama]

Netflix has been great at original tv shows for a while but they are really stepping up their game with their original movies recently. Mudbound is fantastic. It's a little longer but never drags. It hooks you and you really start to care for the characters. Really great performances by Jason Mitchell and Garrett Hedlund. Hopefully Netflix keeps this up this quality with their original movies.

Enthralling film, perfectly paced, with excellent cinematography, about life in a dark time. Great performance from cast.

Incredibly powerful, well written with an outstanding performance by the entire cast. It left me speechless, angry, sad, but hopeful that humanity can do better.

Really great movie, the only thing that leaves somewhat of a bitter taste is that the ending is sold to us as somewhat of a happy-ending - by hiding the fact that a German mother with a colored child conceived with an American soldier would bring quite a lot of discrimination and hardships in post-war Germany as well (whereas in the movie it is, however marginally, portrayed as if post-war Germany were a non-racist paradise when compared to the American South). (I'm from Germany).

The connection between Ronsel and Jamie made this movie touching and poignant despite the horrible hate and bigotry surrounding them. I didn't understand why Laura married Henry as it was quite obvious from the beginning they had a strong connection and absolute chemistry.

This felt more like a mini series than a movie for some reason. Still, so good.
