Gus Van Sant's my own private Idaho is an exceptional and eccentric film. Shakespeare meets street hustlers meets Gus Van Sant in a plot loosely based on modernised version of Shakespeare's Henry IV part 1, Henry IV part 2 & Henry V. My own Private Idaho was most definitely an Avant Garde film, equally comedic and dramatic. River Phoenix's (Mike) masterful performance is excellent, Keanu Reeves (Scott) also shining amongst some memorable characters (Hans, Bob). My own Private Idaho is a film almost perfect, expertly captivating and touching

The critically acclaimed My own Private Idaho is one of my favourite films, it features some of the best depictions of LGBT characters in film and is deservedly considered a cult classic as well as being at the pinnacle of films with LGBT themes (New Queer Cinema). Additionally, the offbeat Indy film's very authentic style coupled with its originality, still make My own Private Idaho a must watch nearly 30 years after release.
