Like an album full of formulaic pop songs with one good tune hidden in the middle.

_My Polish Honeymoon_ has nothing in common with the film whose title it plagiarized. It's the story of a young, Jewish couple who leave their 1-year-old to make a pilgrimage to Poland to commemorate the destruction during WWII of an ancestor's village, and the hilarity that ensues along the way.

Because how could one not laugh at jokes like:

"Don't worry, I'm not going to drink a lot of vodka." Then, 5 minutes later, "Oops, I drank a lot of vodka." Then, the next day, "I'm not going to drink too much vodka." Then, 5 minutes later, "Oops, I drank too much vodka."

The comedic possibilities are limitless, especially if the same joke keeps coming back like a rancid vodka belch.

And I'll spare you the tale of the unhappy couple whose fights are meant to be funny (they're not) and the woman who's meant to be a psycho (she's not) and the relationship with the mother that spares no time nose diving into predictability.

The tragedy in all of this is that when the film touches on the theme of the holocaust, remembering the past, and antisemitism, it's actually a very moving story. I literally shed a few tears at the scene in the Jewish cemetery where a woman who celebrated her 6th birthday in a concentration camp tells her story. So _Lune de Miel_ succeeds when dealing with Judaism and ancestry, but fails at everything else. Unfortunately, 'everything else' is 90% of the film.

Watching the movie, we understand the director experienced everything we see here and decided to write a script and make a film about her commemorative trip to Poland, but, alas, the slide show of her Polish holiday isn't as interesting as she thinks.
