And so the devil rides on in a rather acceptable if dull at times 90's take on Something Wicked...

Instant 1 due to dog being killed at 56 minutes, horror movies need to leave pet killing out.

@malekar thank you for the warning. I'm so sick of this trope. It's so lazy - it's like the jumpscare, except it's honestly such a tired and unnecessary trope that needs to die, but they keep using so they can build tension and make us feel like something very horrific is going to happen without having to do anything extremely expensive and time consuming - and at the expense of a lot of the viewers - people like us, (personally I'm fine with just about anything, but animals being killed or seeing/hearing them hurt.)... I am tired of this. If it's something that happens in the book - which I think this is based on, I'll give it a little bit of a leeway, but even then, there isn't a reason we need drawn out scenes like we get in these films every single time, which are **ALWAYS** gruesome and horrific.

I turned off Stranger Things after they did this to a cat .... It was deeply upsetting. Everyday life is bad enough. Sucks when you are enjoying something a lot and would like to continue it.

A darkly comedic and highly entertaining small-town horror drama where a mysterious antique store owner turning townsfolk against each other. Where it struggles is with its tone. It's so all over the place but despite its flaws, I still find it enjoyable. I wouldn't say this is a terrifying film, it's just the way it oozes the early 90s that make this film so comforting to watch. The plot is fairly straightforward compared to other SK work but there's something so alluring about it. I'd say my most enjoyment comes from the acting from the cast. Ed Harris makes it fun and Max von Sydow as the antagonist makes it even better. All in all, this is one of the better adaptations and I'd recommend giving this a watch.

The 188 minutes tv cut adds a great deal of backstory but alas this film is still mediocre.
