"They're coming to get you, Barbara."

This film has such a slowly builds up for the first 45 minutes and then after they watched the news on the television, it gets in your face. That scene with Karen and her Mother is amazing, Ben (Duane Jones) is a great lead! All the stuff that started here like boarding up houses with stuff you can find, the way zombies are killed, how they act, it all started here to my knowledge.

So much has been said about this one that I know that I can't do it justice one bit. And everyone can watch it! It is even in its entirely on Wikipedia! So no one has an excuse to not watch George A. Romero's debut!

It also really, really, really, holds up well. The black and white helps, it has a great soundtrack and even for its time, the gore is great. Man, it was such a blast revisiting this one!

Thank you George A. Romero! For such an influential film!

One of the strongest things about this film, is the busy camera angles. I felt like I was within the rooms, amongst the actors and witnessing a real event taking place.

You may agree it has the blueprints for a typical zombie film, and not the best acting. But everyone should agree on how shocking the ending was. It did make me think twice about what the director was trying to say.

I'm not an horror/zombie person, but it was okay and I did get some enjoyment out of it.

The budget was low.The actors were not the top of the heap, yet Night of the Living Dead is a very effective horror film.It was the film that no doubt set the standard for horror films of today.

Holds up very well! It’s simple and elegant, so it’s quite an achievement that it manages to be as memorable as it is. It’s really well directed and the acting is well above average, especially compared to other films from around the time. The characters are interesting and you care about them emotionally. Even some of the aspects you expect to be the most dated (like pacing and make up) hold up pretty well. I also really appreciate the subtext, some of the most interesting aspects of this film don’t even deal with the zombies.

No matter how old the visuals look, this masterpiece will forever be a classic. A founding pillar in horror cinema and a reminder of the world we're in. It's more realistic than you'd think the terror is real. The low budget shows and it has it's slow moments but it's perfect on all other accounts and the horror is so effective. What an ending!!

This movie has not stood the test of time, it does not hold up well at all.
The acting is horrendous, the score ... oh my god the score is the worst, I assume this is due to the remastering, and if so, someone should be fired for it.
If you have seen this before and haven't watched it for some time (like I did) then do yourself a favour and do not ruin the memory you have of it.

@broknsymetry when I was nine I turned it off...three times. I was spending the night at my grandmothers...after the last time I got under the cot I was sleeping on and pulled the blanket down to hide. Prolly seen it at least a dozen times since then, but...every Sat night I'd watch three different horror/creature shows. None effected me like that.

The movie that inspired many good horror classics... Well damm it was pretty boring to see this, don't get me wrong if it was 1968 it would have been the scariest movie that I would ever see...
The writing on this movie is nothing special, I mean it's nothing honestly, you have like what almost 30 minutes of the male protagonist building defense and him monologuing while the female protagonist is too shocked to react. There's a lot of unnecessary silence but it helps to build the environment. I must confess that the way these zombies look-like were pretty funny the way they walk and interact with the characters, it was something to watch. One more thing that I was very intrigued, was the cinematography, it somehow felt like I was watching an indie movie from the 2010s, very modern I quite liked it. Overall I think the movie is great if you want a bit of a taste of how horror movies were back in the days, you won't get scared but you could get bored so take your time.

George Romero revolutionizes the zombie genre with his classic indie horror film Night of the Living Dead. Simple but terrifying, the plot follows a group of people who take shelter at a farm house when the re-animated dead begin attacking. The writing is pretty good and feels grounded in reality; being very minimal so as to allow the unknown to create its own fear. And, the drama between the characters is intense. However, the score is asked to carry a lot of the film and isn’t up to the task; lacking the suspense and atmosphere needed. There are also inconsistencies with the ghouls; which is a little problematic. Yet despite its weaknesses, Night of the Living Dead is visionary, setting the foundation for the modern zombie film.

It is crazy to think how far we have come in this genre. Looking back it is pretty impressive what George A. Romero was able to do with nothing before and a little budget. Still I was a little bored with this movie.

This is a classic for a reason. And given that most of the cast really didn't do much after this, it wasn't spectacular acting. It was the story. It was the directing. It was boffo ending that's a gut punch to the spleen. Sit back and enjoy unrelenting horror. Bust up the furniture and hope for the best.
