Through a story of gangsters and betrayals, Steven Soderbergh offers a social look at the auto industry. It is a cruel, mainly male world, full of back-stabs, in which every corner can be the first step towards the cemetery. The fisheye lens is sometimes shocking, but at the same time offers wide vision and a sense of distorted reality. Rebellion is an illusion, the rules are always imposed by the same people.

A fun old school noir mystery that is not all about shooting, with a distracting amount of ultra wide lens with some weird distortion.

This was surprisingly fun. Stellar cast, excellent acting and a twisty plot.

@hashman_aus you call this slow? I don't want to know what you think of Nomadland.

I'm fairly enraged at this moment... This was shit.

A weak plot that tries to be clever with a dozen double-crosses. Not only that but it limps along for the first 2/3s and then tries its hand at a 'get out of jail free card' with an unexpected cameo... Unexpected if you didn't realise that the cast of this thing is whoever is not jaded after Ocean's 13...

Terrible pacing, silly plot, lacklustre script, and that fish-eye lense was a ridiculous choice. Just pointless - achieves nothing yet irritates the viewer.

If this had the cast originally chosen, then it'd be trying to do Ocean's 1965. But it didn't and it feels like Baby Driver with the driving and music removed.

But shit movies appear all the time, and good directors lose their touch - as Soderbergh has this last decade... The thing tat has me hopping mad is that it closes with some righteous nod to the corruption of the automobile industry. Ha! Talk about a damp squib.

4.5/10 - for Don Cheadle being a classy guy and Benicio Del Toro for at least showing up to set each day.

Layered, convoluted but so stylish, No Sudden Move is a pulpy, noir crime thriller about the backroom shady deals of a thriving motor industry in race-divided Detroit. Great performances from the surprisingly star-studded cast are a stand out here, along with the cinematography and set design of 50's Detroit. A lack of clarity really pulls this movie back from being superb however, with the plot staying too fragmented until far too late in the runtime. Motivations and connections aren't clear, and dense dialogue makes it hard to follow the intricacies of this multi-layered deal. Much pausing and reflection will be required to fully piece together the through-line of this criminal mystery, but those up for the challenge will be rewarded with one suave, rich caper.

Typical Soderbergh movie. More style than substance with unnecessary star cameos and convoluted plotting. Great actors are lost in a film that favours double cross after double cross in place of a coherent narrative..

A seemingly under-appreciated gem - very much an "old school" film noir in style and pacing (though without as much actual darkness and shadow as you'd expect). Some nice not-showy performances, though none that really stood out. A pity the genuinely interesting actually historical McGuffin seemed to be tacked on at the end rather than properly integrated with the whole story but definitely worth a watch for Soderburgh and/or film noir fans.

This was a poor man's Chinatown. The movie had this big build up to a weak conclusion. It just goes to show that a great cast and director aren't always able to overcome a weak script.

Completely lost interest halfway through, kept it on my second monitor while playing a game and absolutely nothing happened worth regaining my attention.

Better then expected, although I admit, I wasn’t sure what to expect.
Acting was pretty good. I’ve always liked Don Cheadle and Benicia Del Toro and they both were great as expected.
Lots of backstabbing, was hard to follow at times.
And pretty slow paced.
But, if you can make it to the end, it picks up and, sort of, comes together!

If ever a film needed in media res, this is it. It languished for so long that I didn't care about anyone. I like a film with a slow pace, but they at least evoke some interest. After the curveball it got a bit more interesting, but by then it was too late, and I had to decide to either watch on FFW or just start something else, and the 'something else' beckoned to my like a sultry siren.

Maybe I wasn’t in the mood but Director Stephen Soderbergh managed to put me asleep like fifteen times. This movie should be called “Lots of Sudden Moves”, because it drags on like Trump after a fair and legal election.

the cast is great it's a pretty original story for a movie in this genre

some great dialogue the costume design is on point

the pacing is quite slow

it goes on way too long

the final act feels like an almost completely different movie that just doesn't flow with the rest

It's one of them films that you know is bad but you still enjoy it because of the casting because that's what saved it for me.

I thought this was initially a remake of The Friends of Eddie Coyle. Similar in the beginning and expands into something much more. A great amount of twists and turns. Extremely engaging
