[Göteborg FF] Gianfranco Rosi is the most prominent director of the observational documentary, of the camera that looks at reality with curiosity, to extract the background in the image. His last film continues this look, but at the same time it is less eloquent than in others. The reality here is "made up" by a powerful cinematography, of great beauty, but that clouds that look. It gives the impression that the observer intervenes more and more in what he films.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, well this movie is a thousand pictures.

_Notturno_ is a documentary that consists only of images filmed for 3 years on the borders of Iraq, Kurdistan, Lebanon, and Syria. The cinematography is often stunning and the images convey perfectly the poignant story of this time in place, though the lack of any unifying theme and absence of narration, extraneous dialog and music make the 100-minute run time noticeable at moments.
