A dark comedy about a bipolar mall cop (Seth Rogen) dealing with a flasher on the loose. The arrival of a ‘real’ police officer (Ray Liotta) causes some friction. This came out at a similar time to Paul Blart but for two films with the same subject matter, they could not be further apart. Observe and Report is a black as night comedy, with a sometimes deeply unlikeable central character and an odd dead-pan tone. Toss in some surprisingly good action scenes, a touching romance and some great one-liners and you’ve got a decent comedy. Seth Rogen has never been this scary, and no, I'm not even joking. His character in this movie is a dangerous narcissist who hurts everyone he comes across, emotionally and physically. He's almost like Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver but thrown in a comedy.

I had heard good things about this movie from people that I generally trust. You may have heard this storyline before but Seth Rogen plays a mall cop that thinks he owns the world and that the mall is his territory. When a perv starts to terrorize the mall by flashing women in the parking lot, Rogen takes it personally. I'd say that this movie was better than any Hollywood comedy that I've seen in a long time but that isn't saying much. It straddled the line between being a mainstream comedy and being a dark comedy but was never really either of them. I almost would have preferred that it did cross into the dark comedy genre like Hott Fuzz did. Once again, worth the time (there were some generally funny moments) but nothing that is going to make you forget Animal House.

Not the greatest movie. Really funny though. He always dreamed of becoming a cop. He runs his security team at the mall like he's the captain. They spend most of the movie trying to catch a male flasher.
