A really entertaining film that doesn't reinvent the wheel but you have a good time with it. There's a strange mix of folk horror and cosmic dread in here. It's effectively spooky with a great central performance by Jocelin Donahue. The whole thing feels like one big nightmare which you can't wake up from and reminds me a bit of American Horror Story, from the style, music and effortless switching between serious to silly to overdramatic, which I find it very delightful. Keating proves again he knows how to make a stylish film that doesn't make sense all the time, but still fun to watch. This might not be for everyone but I really enjoyed it.

What an absolute mess. To say Off Season has any semblance of writing is completely false. It makes absolutely no sense at all, even if you try to pay attention. It's just nonsensical from beginning to end. I would've gave this a 1, but it does have decent cinematography at points... Don't get me wrong, this movie is still a steaming pile of crap. Finding any positives for this is like finding a needle in a football field-sized haystack. Avoid, unless you enjoy awful "horror" movies.

Ermahgerd!!! What a complete and utter waste of time. If this is what the kids these days are passing off as Horror, then count me out.

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

Very classic but well done. A small closed community that shares a dark secret and temporary visitor that gets trapped there slowly uncovering the truth, nothing original there. An island closed for the winter, a little storm for the atmosphere, a bit of family history. Really nothing new.

We never leave the main character, always following her. Not gonna lie, a lot of scenes are just her wandering around in different places with an oppressing atmosphere.
All other characters only have a few lines and barely any plot impact. The inhabitants are weird, not really friendly but they're not an active threat either (
only passive victims
), they just add to the oppressing atmosphere.

So how does she learn the truth if there are barely any interactions with anyone ? Well, turns out she doesn't discover it slowly on the island, only we do, she's been told the whole thing before even the beginning of the story, and just didn't believe it.

The whole thing works pretty well.

Imaginatively made but more than a little baffling.

This just fell flat, more like remembering a fuzzy nightmare than a complete story.

I love a good ghost story with proper structure and clarity. This one has too many cut-aways for effect (though the scenery IS nice), too little information given and too much left to audience's imagination to fill in the gaps, the dialogue is also awful.
