GREAT FILM!

I had seen the trailer but it didnt catch my attention. They had a screening at a film festival I was volunteering at, when it finished you could hear the clapping in the whole building and everyone kept saying how great it was. The next day I went to see it and it was my highlight of the whole festival!

TL:DR dont watch the trailer, just watch it.

You're welcome..

Definitely, as others have said, the less you know going in the better it becomes as the film & story unveils through the running time.

Pretty impressive guerilla zombie (zombilla? Geurombie?) Filmmaking, one seemingly extended long take, filled with chases (really too many), body parts, blood, young love, and a director who might be insane. Overall quite entertaining, but also wholly annoying in countless ways. I didnt love what they were going for, but I didnt hate it either.

The perfect zom-com! It starts off dead (some people even walked out and I thought perhaps the critics' raves were ravings) but then it comes alive and bites you in the ass. And once it sinks its teeth in you, you're hooked!

Stop reading here if you plan on seeing the film! You should go in as blind as possible!

Synopsis:
The first half hour is a low budget zombie film, shot real-time and in one take. This is NOT the comedy, no matter how much intellectually Parisians chortled at what they were convinced were the appropriate places. No, the comedy takes place in the faux 'making-of' that follows, and I haven't laughed so hard in the cinema in a long time. Stick around for the credits, which is the real making-of the short that begins the film.
Creative and outside the box, _One Cut of the Dead_ is not the movie you expect, but it is the zom-com you deserve.

@saint-pauly Idk, this idea of the director character using ‘real’ zombies in order to draw better performances out of the actors got a good laugh out of me

@jordyep Oh, for sure! Actually, I loved this movie (so much better than the recent French remake), so if I have the contrary impression, it was accidental.

This is one of those movie-within-the-movie kind of films., where an amateur crew is trying to shoot a one-cut zombie apocalypse flick. I like genuine trash movies, but here they are trying way too hard to imitate one to the point that it gets tiresome. After all, it’s just people screaming and chasing each other for thirty minutes. Then there is a cool-down portion in the middle that surely could be shorter, but at least changes the perspective and adds some interesting links to the first part. Finally, the last thirty minutes are the real treat, and despite the acting being a little off, overall it’s quite an impressive achievement for a close-to-no-budged, independent film.

Not the zombie film I expected but it was certainly the one I needed - I had a smile on my face throughout the entirety of this one of a kind movie. Just make sure you avoid spoilers before seeing it.

This is a very fun film, with some hilarious setups and payoffs between the first and third acts. It's a wonderfully messy and ambitious piece of filmmaking.

Really fun, don’t read too much about it before seeing it.
It’s a rare blend of horror and comedy that works.
Extremely creative as well, though the first 40 minutes can be a little odd and challenging on a first watch (takes a while for the characters to develop and it seems to get increasingly cheesy, but you’ll get why once you have the full picture).
I love how it
draws attention to the creative process and artistry of filmmaking, probably a very good watch for people who still need to develop their skills for analyzing films.
I’d probably like it a bit more if the cinematography and music in the second half were a little stronger, but still a great watch and it gets increasingly funnier as it goes along.

8/10

I cannot recommend this film highly enough and it's even better the second time around. This horror comedy completely took me by surprise. It's insanely creative and incredibly funny. Love the way everything comes together so perfectly and it ends with a lot of heart. I'm not even going to say much. It's hard talking about without spoiling. Just go watch it. Going in blind and trusting in it is the way to experience it.
