This is a beautiful, simple movie. The animation is superb, the characters feel very real and relatable, and the script and voice acting is natural.
Only sensitive people will understand and appreciate this movie's simplicity and beauty. It reminds me of both Boyhood and My Neighbor Totoro, where not much happens, there is no drama or issue to be resolved. It's just an experience. And a beautiful one at that.

Nicely written and it was released on my birth year :heart:. The simplicity is what makes this movie pull them heartstrings.

Other than not feeling like G Studio, it was alright, a little strange at times thought and had a good ending..

Takahata made something more lightweight as his follow-up to _Grave of the Fireflies_. However, this one is still mostly aimed at adults. It’s a very mature, subtle film that operates in the same way as _Aftersun_, there are similar themes of memory and womanhood here that are unlikely to click with children. Like, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to argue that this is an arthouse film, it’s a character study first and foremost. I feel like a broken record at this point, but it has to be mentioned that the animation and worldbuilding are once again outstanding, at this point Takahata’s visuals carried slightly more punch than Miyazaki’s. The characters are interesting, the voice acting is great (though its use of narration can occasionally be lazy) and there’s really good attention to detail when it comes to the storytelling. Again, it’s not as emotionally powerful as _Grave of the Fireflies_, but it compensates for that by being more conceptual.

A very cool and interesting story. Many interesting aspects of life are shown in this anime, i.e. the life of a young person, respect for nature and how to live your life. I recommend the movie as much as possible.

Kids and teens will find it boring but it's one of the most beautiful Ghibli movies. The ending is unforgettable.

It was realistic and I'm sure most people found something relatable from those series of memories. But it got too boring at times and some stuff they talked about felt too insignificant even for the slice of life genre. I also think the ending wasn't very good. She got convinced so easily.

It made me think about this movie, I ended up crying. This film is really beautiful, I felt being in the field, I felt its connection with nature, I also felt that I need a change like her.

At my 27 years, the movie let me thinking if I am really living the life I want. The story is very slow and simple, and the way the ending is delivered, it's just... beautiful.

This movie is just so ahead of its' time, unbelievable to see that it was made in early 90s.
