Weird how they focused on boring parts. And then added unrealistic elements because they needed to give the protagonists some highlights.

I think von Roenne's perspective might have resulted in a much better movie.

Good performances and an interesting true story but the film isn't as engaging as it should have been.

It's good, but we expected better, it focuses too much on the relationship Ewen and Jean. Parallel plot of the Ministry of time 3x02

I thought this was a pretty decent movie that shows how a very successful true operator unfolded. I've always been fascinated with this story, it's nice to see it put into a movie in such a good way.

Based on true events, _Operation Mincemeat_ is a compelling WWII drama starring Colin Firth, Matthew Macfadyen, Kelly Macdonald, and Jason Isaacs. As the Allies prepared to invade Italy, a counter intelligence unit is tasked with finding a way to trick the Germans into believing that the invasion will come through Greece. The writer’s do a good job at creating tension and suspense as the operation goes into motion; although there are a few extraneous subplots that detract from the main story. Also, the set and costume designs are especially well-done, giving an authentic feel for the time period. It has a few problems, but overall _Operation Mincemeat_ is a fascinating look at a remarkable chapter of history.

Quite a good movie. A different story from WW2, somewhat similar to the story about Enigma. Not quite the same acting performance as Enigma, but an interesting deception, they managed to keep secret for quite some years afterwards.

Like playing Frisbee with your dog in the park on Sunday, it's all good fun until the romance kicks in.

I thought all that true story intrigue and real life espionage and secret military strategy involving Churchill and Ian Fleming was exciting but, wow, when they added a fabricated Harlequin romance love triangle, that's when I knew what the film really needed!

Trust me, the Wikipedia article about Operation Mincemeat is far more interesting than this overly-romanticized syrup festival. Tragic, really, because the actual story was so fascinating it didn't need to be helped right into the garbage.

PS This film might pair nicely with At War With Love (In guerra per amore, Italian, 2016), the story of how the American invasion of Sicily eventually led to the spread of the Mafia throughout Italy.

@saint-pauly I doubt that Cosa Nostra ever made it into Calabria which had their own organization that pre-dates the Sicilian one.

@ackerbilk I'd have to watch the film again to remember the details, but the film's distributor says it's "An adventurous and romantic journey that unfolds the complexity of organized crime in its early days." I'm sure you know far more about Mafia history than I, I'm just repeating the film's message.

Boring and dull, without knowing much about the Operation depicted and the UK background the film does not work at all, and it spends too much time showing, in a very confused way, not so relevant elements about the character background. Completely lacks a cohesive narration.

It's well acted, technically a star studded cast in the UK. So I was expecting it to be good. It is really good, but it's missing depth of the characters... too much espionage flowing into the actual script. The brothers relationship isn't explored at all. The main two characters relationship isn't gone into fully. The side "romance" is just tiny glimpses. Nothing of the personal interactions reaches the depth of loving the characters. It's a historical docudrama and maybe that's why. They just didn't know enough about the people to develop the characters fully. A shame really. I gave it an 8, but it's a 7.5. Great overall but missing the punch to be fantastic.

A solid movie about hidden war that works less effectively than "The Man Who Never Was" (1956) as a spy movie. There's an attempt to introduce a love story which is however unconvincing, despite having one of the most impressive casts of British actors and actresses. It's interesting the introduction of Ian Fleming in the story, a harbinger of future James Bond, and the epilogue about the soldier's grave in Huelva.

A very interesting story and at several points very laugh out loud (in a very dry sense). I would happily watch this again.

I think what has been often said about this movie is very true: the story is fantastic but it may have been better off as a documentary or docuseries. Once they get past the meat of the story they really had to scrounge to fill in the gaps (including inventing a love triangle). The movie dips in the middle but finishes off stronger.
