The twist caught me off guard , some brutal kills , a fine prequel to know more about Esther

Very predictable. Ending credits are scarier as the movie itself. And whats up with tje misty color grading? But the twist was good atleast.

Not me paying for Paramount+ and Showtime annual plan but rarely using both services :sob:. Anyway, I didn't expect this slasher prequel to be so entertaining. This is a film that knows exactly what it is and embraces the silliness to create a slasher that isn't even scary but is a whole lot of fun. This mostly works because Isabelle Fuhrman is delightful as the 'evil kid' with the side characters that are equally entertaining to watch. I dig a lot of the choices made stylistically and every time things begin to look predictable, there's another bizarre twist toss into the mix. Some of the kills are pretty gnarly as well. The best slasher film of the year.

Didn't think I could find a serial killer midget attractive, as well as scary. The first film was better as a horror, this was more "Netflix" like, watch it and forget it.

A really fun prequel with lots of cool bloody kills. Isabelle Fuhrman was awesome and while she obviously aged and this is a prequel I think they did the best they could and I completely forgot she was actually older. I like that it feels like a 2000s horror and it has the same style as the original. It's not as good as the original but definitely fun and I didn't see that twist coming!

We didn't get to see her first kill though and how did she get in that mental hospital? We need a prequel to the prequel! Or a sequel i'll take anything they got bring it on I love Esther

Possibly as unnecessary as finally entertaining prequel that at least manages to give a twist to what could be expected from it. Rather than avoid commonplaces, it uses them to twist them and build a B-movie that, thankfully, doesn't take itself seriously. The director reinforces this ridiculous image of a thirty-year-old woman in a girl's body to place Esther closer to Chucky than the original character.

I'll give them this, the twist was nice.
other than that.... it ultimately fails as an origin story. the main character that we met from the original one back for 2009, was basically the same as now. like we didn't get a "what happened to her to make her this way" we got a "let's revisit what happened immediately before the first movie, that is pretty much a variation of the original story, with a small twist that changes nothing in the outcome".
a lot of small details had no purpose and a lot of things that were literally crucial to the story were brushed over.
not a bad movie just very misplaced prequel with a 13 year gap (that led to some weird makeup choices to make us believe that a 25 year old was playing a 8/9 year old)

This one was just as fun to watch as the first one. This one also had a comical undertone to it, but it was definitely done it the right fashion to keep the movie on track so it stands in solidarity with the first one.

A relatively enjoyable origin story, with a well-executed plot, but an unnecessary prequel, which should've been left up to the audience's imagination. Great performances though.

the movie is good, mainly for the plot twist that catches everyone off guard, of course you need to ignore some holes, like if everyone believed that she was in fact Esther why didn't she inherit the rich family's money?

I wasn't really into the story, but the cast was great and the pace was just right! I wasn't bored for a single minute.

Back to back viewed this with the original, knowing the twist of the first but not the second. This was surprisingly decent all things considered. It completely leans into the silliness and is almost acutely aware of how stupid this all is, which I can only respect it more for. Decent horror thrillers, and always good to see Isabelle Fuhrman in a leading role. If you've not seen it yet, her performance in The Novice is high tier, highly recommend.

well done, you almost had me, i didnt see that coming. otherwise kinda regular movie, not really scary, some stupid things here and there but overall good prequel. i would give only 6 but one extra point for effort and making it work somehow. end credits are beautiful.
