This was a good action/thriller movie. I’m pleasently suprised cause this is a pretty much a World War 2\Military movie. Zombie\Horror stuff almost serves as a twist on last 20 minutes. Music and sound effects were so gooooood on IMAX! :D Camera work was shaky on some parts tho.

If you go to this movie expecting horror/zombie stuff, you will be disappointed. This is a WAR movie, i repeat this is a war movie.

Definitely had high hopes for this movie, was expecting something twisted and over the top, and what it turned out to be was a standard war movie with some extra gore and some monsters.
Way too much time spent on getting us to know the characters, and too little on action.
You're better off watching a real WW2 movie or a straight up zombie movie instead of this half-baked mix of them.

@fawlty70 I disagree, the first half of the movie is a quality war movie that devolves into a gorey horror mess of awesomeness. They spent just enough time on the characters to make you care when they are effected by the events without wasting time on them that doesn't have a pay off. The movie struck the right balance I think. It got the war aspect right, and that is what made the second half so impactful.

@fawlty70 I'm with you, for slightly different reasons. Hugely average trash. To be fair though, I was expecting some sort of decent telling of the story of Overlord. I'm also no horror fan. What a waste of time, it did neither war nor horror well.

I loved the balance between the war/horror but would of love to see more of the horror and behind it all but other than that this film is in my good books with some decent action from the start to finish and good cast, definitely worth your time.

Pretty boring movie. The first hour is just a bad war movie with poor dialogue. The second half is much more interesting, but very under-developed. Disappointing that the concept was never fully realized.

Not great, not bad; I despise the decision to erase Nazi symbols in the name of political correctness. Surprisingly, Hitler isn't referred to as Hydra... this PC stuff is actually dumb because their usage is fair under the context, its omission not only does a disservice to historical authenticity, but it also breaks some of the immersion - obviously that the movie isn't a "true story", but neither is Indiana Jones. I'm not really sure why though, but for whatever reason I found the movie less compelling than it potentially could have been. A good watch nonetheless.

@ner0p Why would despise that? I don't understand ? Its clear what the movie was about and didn't need to have that put out to all to see.

@mark_willmer Well, I think I should first clarify that I have no sympathy for fascism or Nazism. I despise the decision to not use authenticity whenever possible. You said it's clear what the movie is about, all the more reason... are we going to deny the plot involves fighting evil Nazis? It does, obviously. As weapons, maybe they might as well have used arrows, laser sabers, or blasters - seeing as it was clear what the movie was about.

The fact that the "artistic" direction decided to do away with the actual symbology and replace it with something else is nothing more than PC - which is what I despise about it. Even a movie that recounts the odd story of a man that killed Hitler and then the Bigfoot uses authentic symbology, always a plus.

You end your comment with "didn't need to have that put out to all to see". This was also an interesting choice of words, it indicates that you view the usage of Nazi symbology not as authenticity but as damaging propaganda, void of any context, as if the spectator is mindless and would see it as an obscenity.

Why would you rate this movie 10? That I really don't understand.

@ner0p Wow
Then maybe you should have said all that in your review.
"10" because I enjoyed it, so did the people that watched it with me.

@mark_willmer I guess you're right, maybe I should have elaborated more. I enjoyed the movie as I said in my initial comment, the rant about the symbology is more of a side note, even though it seems to be the main factor in my appreciation of the movie. I think that there was more potential, felt "under-developed" as another comment mentioned. Glad you liked it though.

Meh. Trashy but well-intended movie. Lots of loose threads and hella weak characterization. Problems get resolved within 1-2 minutes. Shows how well made other war movies are in comparison. Yet: Worth a watch for the adrenaline-infused opening and the sound design for some parts.

I have mixed feelings about this movie. Whilst I enjoyed it and was keen to find out what happened next, I can't help but feel like the "undead" things were underused.

My expectations of the film were that the tar underground was making all these dead bodies come back but I was surprised to find out it was the Germans experimenting. Yet they were barely used, I think there was one fight between a non-character undead and Chloe showed that where to go. I understand that the mission had nothing to do with them but that's just my feeling, especially since the main "ooo" factor of the description is the "something else" they have to fight... They didn't fight it...

Still enjoyed but probably not going to watch again any time soon...

Again like "The Fury" like always, American soldiers which are so nice and gentle and help women and kids and do not want to kill anybody! American troops are experts and they can easily kill 100 silly germany soldiers just by a knife!!

stop crying. the movie did not portray the US soldiers like that. they got their asses handed to them just as much as the German soldiers. must be you projecting. anyway, the movie was alright. it could have focused more on the horror elements, but it still was a nice watch.

It amuses me how full of shit people are. How exactly is this such a quality film? Don't get me wrong, it's a fun time-waster, but how is this good but then other movies of its ilk are completely ragged on...? It does nothing unique, everything in it has been seen a hundred times before, and it's soo over-the-top. It feels like watching a video game; why didn't they just go all the way and call it Wolfenstein? It was when scarface injects himself with the secret serum and goes Super Saiyan that I realized I was watching a Resident Evil movie. It's a fun, ridiculous B-Movie for sure, but let's not hold it up as great cinema...
