This movie was an interesting take on mental illnesses and their awareness. Since I have only watched the movie, I only know about the story from it. The ending was not something I would have expected, that is the fact that [spoiler]that the worms and humans could actually coexist[/spoiler] and [spoiler]the doctor probably had some sort of scheme going on[/spoiler]. Although sweet-sounding like a happy ending, I have my doubts about it. I don't know, but I liked the movie anyway.

Overall, it was a good watch. It started off promising with amazing acting, cinematography and an interesting plot. But ended up as an average sci-fi romance with nothing more than a mediocre ending instead. The first half had me quite invested, which is also probably why it was hard to stomach its simple ending. Honestly, I had expected a bomb ending which, happy or not, satisfied the logic and quality that the film had adhered to so far.

It's a fascinating look at mental illness and how it defines us, in addition to addressing concerns over what makes our emotions genuine. Unfortunately, there are a few significant deviations from the source material, especially in the film's second half. While some of these deftly sidestep some of the more awkwardly written segments of the novel, others hinder the overall tone of the resolution and leave everything feeling much more cliched. While I don't think it quite lives up to the novel, I'm certainly not disappointed with this adaptation. The cinematography & accompanying soundtrack are both particularly good, and the special effects used to simulate the stresses of mental illness more than made up for the visual medium's lack of internal monologuing, even if the application was a little sloppy in some places.
