Man where do I even start. Mia Goth is amazing in this movie, and Ty West is really making a good name for him self. I can’t wait to see more movies from both of these people moving forward. Mia Goth’s character “Pearl” is such a good portrayal of a woman that every guy might have ran into once or twice, and we can all relate to how you want to separate yourself as far from them as possible, because your biggest fear is that you’ll be around once they finally spiral out of control like “Pearl”.

Much, much better than X (which is 4 in my rating). I was a bit afraid to invest my time in watching it after disappointing X, unnecessary, this one is good. 6 by me usually means 7-8 by others ;)

Wow. I didn’t expect that.

A very dull movie. Waste of time.

Or maybe I don’t get this horror sub genre. I am sorry I watched it. The end.

Everything about this just adds up to the most wickedly fun time, from the rich colors and tone to Mia Goth's riveting performance to the tense slow build culminating in her complete unraveling.

I thoroughly enjoyed this, but those end credits!!! I couldn't stop staring back at her, but it was also so unsettling. Really brilliant stuff, can't wait for MaXXXine

There is really nothing much to say about it. A pretentious director, paired with an actress with mediocre talent at best, and both of them really convinced that they're doing something seriously scary and good... Unfortunately, it can't be further from the truth. The screenplay isn't neither scary nor inventive, the direction is pedestrian at best, and the acting is borderline amateurish, with the leading actress whose accent sounds as fake as she is in some lousy high-school play.... There is literally not ONE truly scary or suspenseful moment in the movie, and, although I didn't love Ti West's previous overrated but competent movie X, this one is a serious step in the wrong direction when it comes to possible franchise-building out of this non-inventive, pretentious crap. Two stars is a generous grade for this dreck, IMHO.

A pretty good prequel to “X”, as it follows the old lady from a young age and how she became such a sociopath. Really dives deep into her triggers as a young freshly married young woman still being tied down at her family farm awaiting her husbands return from war. The lead actress plays an impressive Emmy award winning type role. The film is more disturbing than the first as it shows some pretty gruesome scenes of Pearl killing and desecrating animals and people. A bit slow but so fascinatingly disturbing it kept you on the edge of your seat.

If horror were given an Oscar, Mia Goth would definitely win.

It manages to be a drama over a horror movie, more successful in its mix of cinematographic references than "X" (2022), supported by a powerful performance by Mia Goth, who reserves herself, as screenwriter, generous brilliant moments in the form of monologues and facial expressions. Perhaps focused in the construction of the main character, the process of transformation into a monster, it forgets to give greater development to other characters, but it pays a great homage to the Hollywood Golden Age.

When comparing to it’s sequel, this comes off a lot more slower, deeper and less action and still fucked up as the sequel and Mia Goth does well but i did enjoy the sequel more.

Mia Goth’s monologue in the third act is chilling, absolutely chilling in a way that’s both vulnerable and eerie. Between this, X, and the upcoming MaXXXine I think it’s safe to say Goth is already a horror icon.

So different from X but yet so familiar the setting, style and nods to the first keeps reminding you this is a prequel. A strong character study on Pearl and her origin story as she absolutely spirals into madness. Mia Goth gives one of the best performances of the year and definitely the best of her career yet! I love how up close and personnal we get to know her character and how close the camera gets to her face it's like looking straight at her soul. If I had to say something negative about it is that it gets predictable. Overall an amazing prequel that keeps the X factor from the first! The final scene was sooo iconic!

I absolutely loved every second of it and can't decide if I liked it more than X, they're equals for now.

A surprise prequel coming just months after the original movie release. Despite not being as thrilled about this premise, I was still excited to see it. I don’t think it has much standalone value as the X, but it’s a solid complimentary piece that all fans should check out.

Rating: 3.5/5 - 8/10 - Would Recommend
