Dreadfully dull romantic tragedy. At least it's economic--it feels like it contains the absolute minimum of the necessary elements, without anything unnecessary or superfluous. Normally I'd praise the brevity, but it hurts the picture here because the acting and writing are awful across the board, which means it doesn't come close to earning the emotional payoff at the end. Speaking of board: "You should have seen the BOARDS. They were..well, they were boards I suppose."

Gary Cooper proves that there is a great deal more to his acting than spurs and saddles in this adaptation of George Du Maurier's fantasy drama. He portrays the eponymous character who after many years as a youth of dithering (Act 1), becomes an architect who lands a plum job refurbishing the stable More
