Old characters are brought to life in this live-action but it feels... lifeless! Some minor changes but really nothing new added to the story. The CGI looked good in some parts but terrible in others. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth does a good job as Pinocchio's voice but the highlight for me was Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Cricket (although his CGI model looked lazy and weird). Some of the dialogue was awful! Overall this remake really lacks heart, originality and feels unnecessary. I would definitely rewatch the original instead. Fingers crossed for del Toro's version!

Half way through. I'm loving it. I have special memories to Pinocchio. When I was a little kid my big brother heard me crying in bed cause I got afraid of death. Never before did he show me he cared for me and even though he was only 13 (I was 6) he came into my room and calmed me down by telling a story about Pinocchio. It's my earliest memory. And this just brings it all back. Now I get to watch this with my 8 year old and she's mesmerised. I don't care what anybody says, this is magic.

@noxiuz Nearing 30 year old cynical arse here. Kids movies meant for kids don’t need to be shit or have lower standards, just look at the old Disney cartoons, Pixar, Dreamworks, Harry Potter, Spiderverse, Lego movie, or anything made by Zemeckis himself in the 80s. I’m glad your little one liked it, but we all liked crap when we were younger, and that can leave an impression on us (one that we often look back on and cringe at). Don’t call out other users for making a convincing case that the movie’s shit.

@noxiuz I appreciate you adding your perspective as a parent, and I think it's great context for the discussion, but consider that kids also aren't on Trakt reading reviews on movies.

@Noxiuz It's nice to see someone with common sense writing reviews. Even though no kid will come to read this, parents might, and it's important to understand the context and the target of this movie to write about it.

@noxiuz if you honestly believe Pinocchio is just a children’s tale, and that the movie remake should just be a kids movie, you are woefully ignorant of the story’s history and meaning. It’s funny how you lash out at cynical 30 year olds, yet in the same breath manage to come off as a weapons grade cringe boomer: Animated movies are not just for children, you nonce, they are just a medium, a medium that deserves just as much scrutiny as any other medium, especially considering the material being used here.

@noxiuz "Half way through." I don't get people like you who are in the middle of a movie and already come to the conclusion how to rate it. Why not watch it to the end first, before rating it. I DO however get the emphesis why you like this story in general so much, however this representation is really not good. I'd watch the classic or read the book to my kids. This version is scrapped from the list.

Another pointless Disney live action remake. It has its moments but it really needed an extra sprinkle of the Blue Fairy's magic.

Go and watch the 1940 original instead.

Butchered the source material. Another piece of Western heritage mocked and ruined. At this point it would be embarrassing if the nefarious element behind what’s going on wasn’t so blatantly obvious.

I could go on and on about how story elements and crucial symbology are left out for no reason, how superfluous elements and characters have been added, again for no reason, but there’s no need to deeply analyse these things.

Go and watch the 1940 original instead.

i don't think i enjoyed a single second of this movie
pinocchio didn't learn life lessons
jiminy cricket as the concious was absolutely useless in this movie and did absolutely nothing
the whale was a FUCKING KRAKEN
pinocchio as a boy in the end was nightmare fuel
and i guess the blue fairy animation must have cost too much because they used mystical blue light in the end instead of just having her change pinocchio

Forget all the negative reviews. This was an enjoyable movie, that moved along in a good pace. Good acting from all the live actors, with Tom Hanks shining as Geppeto. The CGI wasn't the best, but it was good. The sign of a good movie is when it brings a joyful tear to your eye. So enjoy and "Wish upon a Star".

Was waiting very eagerly to watch this but after watching the trailer got really disappointed.

From original Collodi's book chapter 15:
"“In desperation, since knocking wasn’t working, he began to kick the door and bang his head against it. Then a beautiful girl came to the window, her hair sky-blue, her face white as a waxen image.”
This is the description of the Blue Fairy.

Many think the original material is the 1940's Disney animation but it's not. The author is Carlo Collodi and published the novel between 1881 and 1882 with the title "The story of a puppet".

I hate it when they feel to need to subvert the original written material to be inclusive.
Very sorry about it but for me it will be a pass.

Please avoid commenting about me being racist. I am not and if you read what I have written you'll understand it's not about that.

@albatr0ss I’m not gonna call you a racist, but do you want me to go over every Marvel project that you rated 7 or higher, and has race bending in it compared to the comics? Grow up.

@jordyep I admit that I didn't read the comics and that I am watching them just for entertainment. I would be more than happy to do some background check on this, could you please give some titles that I have rated 7 or higher that have these bendings?
On a completely different subject, I would like to highlight that I didn't offend (nor intended to offend) anybody with my comment neither did I assume that anybody with a different opinion than mine is being childish. Looking at your profile photo I can surely tell that I am older than you so please don't tell me to "grow up". I accept that you (as many others) have a different opinion from mine and don't attack you because of that.

@albatr0ss Well, if you’re older than me, getting that worked up about this (to the point where you rate it a 1 because of it, without even seeing the movie) is a clear indicator of emotional immaturity if you ask me.

Sure, here are a couple of examples with different source material:
- The Liet Kynes character in _Dune_ is a white man in the books, but portrayed by a black actress in the Denis Villeneuve movie.
- Aquaman in the comics is white, Jason Momoa isn’t
- The character played by Chiwetel Ejiofor in _Doctor Strange_ isn’t black in the comics. Oh and can’t forget about Zendaya in the Spider-man movies, looks nothing like the comic counterpart, especially next to Kirsten Dunst from the old movies.

Sorry to have completely ruined these movies for you.

This is the definition of a soulless corporate film.

Undoubtedly it has good effects, but it doesn't have that hook of the movies from before Disney, I don't know if they have lost that touch of their movies but it's from Pinocchio.
It's like watching a Pinocchio X movie I think they've lost the touch .

Writing this review as a 27 year old. This movie is magical. Your kids will love it just like I did back in the day.

Visually stunning, although the story was very confused and mixed up. Several of the actors accents disappeared half way through. His nose only grew once and he didn’t become a real boy (which is the whole point of the movie). Kids will still enjoy it just fine and pleasure island and the whale were a sight to behold.
