The apes looked cool, but the rest of the movie didn't feel very special.

@maarten-delfgou What Markdown did you use to enclose the subsections in a darker frame? I ask because I haven't been able to achieve the same at https://trakt.tv/comments/576275

Okay, so many negative comments: I grew up with this movie and I love the story and I think this movie was one of the best ever made of the series, the once after this one was just too much over the top.

Give this movie a chance cause I love it!

The film was boring on some occasions, but, without a doubt, it's pretty good. And the end has been incredible.

Everyone but Wahlberg were good casting. I was more into this movie than most people though. Despite a bad ending.

I always sort of liked this movie. The actors playing apes do a fine job. It's the end that makes you wonder what the hell the filmmakers were thinking. Plus yeah Mark Wahlberg is miscast.
Wahlberg playing a smart guy never is too convincing or his best movies.

As a die head planet of the apes fan this movie almost ruined the entire franchise. Until Andy Serikis was able to do it in a cave, with a box of scraps

First impression is what an incredible design. On the Apes. The setting. The costumes. So far I'm really enjoying this.

Great film. I don't see why it gets all the hate. It's better than the one from the 60 anyway. Though I'm subtracting 1 star for the use of the Wilhelm scream. I'm so tired of hearing it. And afterwards I'm too annoyed to fully enjoy the rest of the movie.

Having the humans speak just as well as Wahlberg defeats the purpose of what made the old ones special. Now he's just another human but in futuristic hip mummy wrapping.

This movie gets a lot of hate and it's very understandable. Everything about it is cheesy and not great. The one thing I really enjoyed was the ending of the movie. Who doesn't appreciate a good plot twist.

Yeah... pretty poor.

I didn't even know this existed until a week or so ago. Gotta be frustrating for all involved that they were in a remake/reboot of 1968's 'Planet of the Apes' that wasn't the 2011 version. This one walked so that one could fly etc.

Speaking of flying, what the heck is with the high jumping apes in this? It looks so silly and doesn't add anything; a very odd choice. It is, though, a surprise that this film flopped given who got attached to it. Tim Burton as director, with the acting talents of Mark Wahlberg, Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Clarke Duncan and Paul Giamatti. It's neat that Charlton Heston and Linda Harrison (stars of the original) made cameos, though.

Wahlberg feels a bit miscast, though Bonham Carter and Giamatti are solid; the latter particularly seemed to enjoy the role. The film does have a Burton edge to it, as expected, but this is one of his weaker films no doubt. Some other negatives, for me, include the make-up, esp. for General Thade, - I'm in the minority there - and the story's pacing.

Visionary director Tim Burton delivers a new and provocative Planet of the Apes by returning to the original Pierre Boulle novel (at least in part). In this re-envisioned tale an astronaut gets lost inside of an electrical storm and ends up crashing on an alien planet controlled by apes. The film has assembled an unusually group of actors that includes Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Clarke Duncan, Mark Wahlberg, and Estella Warren. And not surprisingly, the actors playing the apes give some incredibly captivating and interesting performance; on the other hand Wahlberg and Warren suck the life out of this film with exceptionally pathetic performances. The sets, costumes, and make-up are all remarkably good and help to enhance the film. However, the “twist” ending is one of the most ridiculous and nonsensical in cinema history. Burton’s Planet of the Apes has significant problems, yet overall it’s a fairly interesting and action-packed science-fiction film.

Nice action flick with a very unrealistic ending (Leo gets back to earth and finds out that Thade turned the humans on earth into his slaves, too)!
