Major props to the worldbuilding and the way they brought the Pokemon to life, you instantly buy that it’s real. Also, great cinematography and score. But, the script’s complete ass (conveniences, unnecessary exposition, uninteresting characters without development, extremely predictable storyline etc.) aside from Pikachu’s snarky lines, so you’ll probably get bored at some part.

5/10

@jordyep not only uninteresting characters but also overly stupid characters...<br /> <br /> - here is hologram of what was going on in that crash (which I obtained in totally unsuspicious way, mr young detective)<br /> - wow dad! is it you?? i will save you dad!<br /> - *god dammit, tim! it's focking hologram*<br /> <br /> Or when "genius professor" leave his unprotected body in room with his rival #1, very cleaver, indeed genius move<br /> <br /> So many facepalm moments, my face literally hurt after watching this movie.<br /> But Pikachu was indeed cute, tho

@jordyep <br /> The CG was incredibly awful in some scenes.<br /> Props for
the main character being mixed race
.

@catsy Nonsense. This is an example of great creature design. You can argue that the earthquake scene looks off, but overall, this is a CGI standard that should be looked up to.<br /> <br /> Also, being diverse doesn’t make a movie better, just like how a lack of it doesn’t make it worse.

Omg I really loved this movie. It's not a typical Pokémon movie that's probably because of Ryan Reynolds he's so awesome in this one. It has some adult humor too and us just a great watch. The only bad thing is that it's a bit short haha.

It's great to see the franchise finally hitting theaters. The cinematography and score are great! And the plot twist is quite good! I hope that there will be more pokémon movies in the near future :)

@carlosant The first Pokemon movie to hit the theaters was "Pokémon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back" in 1998. Released in American theaters in 1999.

@francisco-pereira I know, but this is different. Those were movies based on the tv show and most of them were restricted to japanese theathers.

What a dumb plot. Love the worldbuilding and the animation though.

Keep it up guys. This is the first Pokémon movie I've seen that wasn't terrible. I don't regret watching it at all. That's high praise for a Pokémon movie. This live action + CG render combination is the way to go.

With a few hiccups here and there visually quite amazing CGI.
Very enjoyable movie. Would love to see more on this quality level.
But the storytelling and characters need a lot of work.
That's the weak point of this movie.
Ditto seems overpowered in this, though.
It's not a great movie but seeing Pokémon on the big screen makes me happy. They look great for the most part. Ryan Reynolds is fantastic as Pikachu and I want the see the R rated outtakes really bad. Everything besides the Pokémon is rather dull. If you're a fan of Pokémon you should have a good time if not, you can skip.

Not sure why I even watched this movie. It was a really bad result of the producers to target towards kids and the original Pokemon fans which are now in their 30s (like me). The animation and effects of the Pokemon were very impressive but everything else was bad.
Ryan Reynolds' voice worked surprisingly well for Pikachu, but Kathryn Newton's acting was – I'm sorry to say – dreadful…
Story was very predictable and often illogical.

The animation was brilliant - sadly let down by the acting and the script. It felt very forced, and really ruined the movie for me. Nice to see Pokemon in the films however.

There were some good bits - some funny adult humor, but other than that, quite a let down.
