The idea of moving to an urban environment and the whole "city as the jungle" metaphor sounds intriguing, but for a large part of the film, Hopkins jettisons what made the first so great - tension, claustrophobia and dread punctuated by brutal, but quick action - in favour of explosions, gun porn and male posturing. There are also huge plot and character inconsistencies and visual gaffes and the film's version of a strong female character seems to boil down to swearing a lot and grabbing men's balls. Quite why the filmmakers decided to set this in 1997 seems laughable now as the 80s vibe comes through even more so than the original. Things pick up considerably in the final third as Glover takes the fight to the Predator and the film finally takes advantage of the different environment to deliver on the whole hunter/hunted theme, with a clever sequence in a meat packing factory that provides some much needed tension to the action. The final act aboard the Predator's ship may help to expand the mythology a little (despite the ridiculous plot contrivance of having the ship in that environment at all) but again the inconsistent approach to the film ensures it is devoid of any real tension or threat and becomes just like any other fight scene. The less said about the other Predators, the better...

Very undervalued sequel suffering because of the first films success.

Los Angeles is imploding with mayhem as gang wars fill the streets, an under pressure police force try to restore order, but both parties have another foe to worry about, a Predator is in town, and he's about to up the ante.

Gone is Arnold Schwarzenegger, gone is John McTiernan, and gone is the jungle setting, so following in the foot steps of the ultimate beefcake movie that was Preadtor 1987 was an unenviable task it seems. Yet I personally feel that Predator 2 stands up to scrutiny as a fine entry into the sci-fi/action genre, locating it amongst the urban decay of L.A. works real well, and pitting the Predator against a tough grizzled (but hardly giganticus beefcakeus) cop (Danny Glover) gives us a smart brains against brawn story. Also cutely is that director Stephen Hopkins and writers Jim & John Thomas have actually got the Predator cleaning up the streets of L.A., in fact another two hours of Predator hunt and kill tactics and crime in L.A. would have been completely eradicated! There is plenty of bloody snotty gore to appease fans of that persuasion, and it's nice to report that the characters on show do actually impact as part of the story.

It has a fine cast that reads like a who's who of action films, Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon), Bill Paxton (Aliens), Robert Davi (Die Hard), Gary Busey (Under Siege), Rubén Blades (Once Upon a Time in Mexico) & Maria Conchita Alonso (The Running Man0, whilst Kevin Peter Hall dons the Preadtor suit and suitably kicks arse again. It's not genius, it's not even ground breaking, but Predator 2 is a fine and entertaining genre piece that sadly seems to forever be undervalued on internet sites.

8/10 "who's next"?

When I was younger I always hated _Predator 2_. Rewatching it as an adult, I don't think it was fair how bad I thought it was. It's not that _Predator 2_ is crap, it's just that it's **so much worse** than the original (one of the 5 best movies ever made), that it comes across as such a massive disappointment. With fresh, or I guess more accurately, with more experienced eyes, I don't mind _Predator 2_ at all, there's actually a lot of stuff I like about it. It's still not a great movie to me, but I don't skip it when I'm doing a marathon like I would have once upon a time. It expands upon the Predator lore in some pretty cool ways, and the Jamaican Voodoo Posse inspired my Escher Necromunda gang, so I've wound up pretty 50/50 on the whole thing.

_Final rating:★★½ - Had a lot that appealed to me, didn’t quite work as a whole._

You'd think that setting this in a city would make the greater potential kills of the Predator even more threatening, but that would be wrong. There's never really a sense of the Predator stalking victims, it just drops in and kills drug dealers, because they have weapons.

Every character in this movie is on speed AND caffeine. Why are they all spastic? Is it the L.A. heat? Everyone is sweating profusely, too. It's really annoying. The shootout between the police and the drug gang is way over the top and impossible to determine why there aren't dead bodies lying three deep with all the shots being fired.

Danny Glover is no Arnold Schwarzeneggar. He's tough but not a badass like Arnold's character "Dutch" was in the original. The Predator that Glover battles must have just gotten his hunting license. In fact, Los Angeles is like a game farm compared to the jungle where the first Predator battled Dutch. It would be pretty simple to hunt animals in a game farm, so the Predator of this movie isn't making his safari much of an adventure.

There are two things that really save this movie. The practical effects associated with look of the Predator. It remains an iconic alien creation. And the final battle on the rooftops between Glover and the alien is entertaining.

I have not given a movie a 5/10 in ages, but this film is real bad :(

Last time I watched it was when I was about 13 years old and I thought it was alright then, but now watching it I notice how much it pales in comparison to the old one and also how bad of an action movie it is in general. All the bits with the predator were pretty good if you could actually make out what is going on and Danny Glover is alright in the film, other than that this is a bad Predator movie. The acting in it is almost porn grade at some points, the story is so unoriginal and when it tries to show some originality it just copies what was done in the first film, but badly.

The last 30 minutes were alright as it was mainly between Glover and the Predator, one more positive is it gives you a little insight into the Predator lore and somewhere in this mess of a film there might be a good movie but I urge you to skip this film and watch either Predator (1987) or even Predators (2010) because at least those are actually good Predator movies. Hell, I'd say even AvP (2004) is better than this, the sad thing is the premise is pretty cool and I was excited for the rewatch but I found myself hugely disappointed.

I also recommend watching RoboCop (1987) over this as you can see that this film tried to copy its future world from that film but once again it does it so badly.

Save the Popcorn for something else and SKIP IT!!!!!
