Note to my future self: don't watch this movie again. _Please_. No matter how much Netflix insists about it. Just don't. Yes, Jeff Bridges, Ryan Reynolds, Mary Louise Parker. Still. Don't.

It's Men in Black, only dumber and not funny. So, like any of the MiB sequels, I guess.

My take? I’d say it did a decent job ripping off Men in Black. It didn’t take itself too seriously which is the only reason it got a rating as high as a passable “Good”. The Ryan Reynolds chemistry was decent, not phenomenal. There was some high octane action scenes that could’ve had more realistic CGI. But ultimately, the main characters were interesting enough to watch.

Jeff Bridges beats Reynolds in an acting. A light film about killing, or rather about its consequences. ;)

Bad, so bad. Some of the CGI was okay, but the deados were too cartoony. I felt like this was some sort of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" with the mixed realistic and cartoony elements, not to mention the slapstick aspects. It just didn't jive as well as Roger Rabbit, and that has about 25 years on this movie.

The acting was hit and miss. Very inconsistent. I like all the main actors, but none of them were all that good. This makes me think the director messed this movie up. Too bad, too. I loved RED and was hoping for more of that awesomeness.

Overall, the plot wasn't too bad. I enjoyed that for the most part.

Pretty faithful interpretation of the original 2011 Dark Horse Comic series combined with several elements of the 2012 follow-up "R.I.P.D. - City of the Damned" as well.

https://digital.darkhorse.com/series/68/ripd

Solid turns by both Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds as the titular cops, and in a trope reversal, Mary Louise Parker and their put upon boss with an apparent history with Roy. Marisa Miller and James Wong put a hilarious twist on the deep undercover meme, and the special effects, though not cutting edge, still hold up fairly well. No cats and dogs living together, nor any angry Mesopotamian Gods, but, still a fun and entertaining supernatural romp.

This movie doesn't make any sense. Ignoring the ridiculous romance, the whole concept just doesn't make sense. The dead stay behind because they want to stay on earth and keep living their lives and yet they want to destroy earth. And the dead stay and yet somehow have a physical body and can pretend to be alive. Their body shows no damage from their deaths and yet thai food turns them into monsters that are visible to humans. I mean how is it the dead are still visible and have perfectly normal bodies even though their bodies died? And the RIPD gave magical id's that somehow give them new bodies? The whole thing is just a mess.

Men in Black with dead people, except it's nowhere near as fun and forgettable.

A formulaic, by the numbers buddy-cop film, R.I.P.D. covers familiar territory, but with a slight twist. The story follows a murdered cop who’s recruited into the Rest In Peace Department, which hunts down escaped and missing dead people who are hiding out in the world of the living. The cast is fairly solid and includes Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Mary-Louise Parker, and Kevin Bacon. However the CGI work is awful, and takes the audience completely out of the film. The writing is also particularly poor, relying heavily on clichés and stereotypes. There are some entertaining moments here and there, and Reynolds and Bridges have some comedic chemistry, but R.I.P.D. is a stale and predictable film that’s not very well made.
