Sentimental, Histrionic, Heartwarming,

Raksha Bandhan is a sentimental yet heartwarming drama which focuses on the trials and tribulations faced by a man living in dark dowry culture. Without a doubt, this film peaks in melodrama and at times feels preachy while delivering the social message, but it beautifully justifies the cons, with moments which highlights how critical and relevant this issue still is, in our society and the only way to normalcy is to break the existing loop. The first half is a delightful episode while the second half is extremely poignant in its approach. Anand L Rai excels in social dramas and Raksha Bandhan is no exception.

Akshay Kumar is solid throughout, the wide emotional range he displays over the entire film is commendable. He carries the entire film on his shoulders and delivers an earnest performance. Bhumi is brilliant in her supporting role as she is a proven actor. The four sisters have done their job well but i wished to see a better dynamic between the sisters which isn't explored vividly. Neeraj Sood as Bhoomi' s father is effective.

Overall, Rakhsa Bandhan said out loud that it's a social drama in the trailer itself, and the treatment of this simple story is beautifully done. Yes it has some moments which go beyond melodrama, but when we put this film together it shines along with its flaws. A truly heart rending second half wins my respect for the film's tone and what it stands for. Loved it.
