I was expecting a smart documentary about religion and people who practice it, and why it doesn't make any sense. Instead Bill created a very weak film where he mocks people and their beliefs. He doesn't even let the people finish their sentences and comes across as very judgemental himself. This isn't a film about religion in general, this is a film about Bill Maher's beliefs.

Pure Brilliance. I can imagine a lot of religious people stopping this movie after 10 minutes because they are scared or ashamed of their beliefs. He makes a TON of valid points. Most important that religion can be very dangerous and that non-believers should step up to take control of the fate of the world. And I totally agree. It baffles me how so many clearly stupid people can hold so much power over others.

maher employs the same tactics as the fundamentalists he tries to criticize. wanderer's review is spot on; despite what is suggested by the film, maher isn't looking to challenge his own personal beliefs, only to reinforce them via mockery and witty one liners. if you are an atheist, and i myself am by the way (and if i wasn't that would make my opinion any less valid) you should despise this film and the culture of 'religious pwnage' that it is a part of.

Everyone should see this "documentary" if for no other reasons than it will make you think and it will make you laugh (really hard). Maher is a standup comedian and is pushing an agenda so it isn't surprising that he introduces a good amount of humor into the film. I've read criticis More
