Like watching a wall for two hours but at least it's a wall with character.

It's a good thing I saw this +2-hour film about a poor farmer in China in the cinema rather than at home, because if I'd watched it streaming I would've let myself be distracted by my phone, then pressed pause 'just for a minute', and then turned it off promising myself I'd watch it later but knowing even as I was doing so that was never going to happen.

Instead, watching it in the cinema forced me to concentrate exclusively on the film and, while it's not an easy watch and definitely not my kind of movie, I came away a richer person for the experience.

Return to Dust is more romantic than the Before trilogy combined and more human than I could ever hope to be.

The extreme romanticization of misery and the fictionalization of the actual situation in rural China seems to touch on the problem of poverty in rural China, but it gives me the illusion that I am talking about love in a big way, damn it!!!!!!
