The workers of a dye factory have their pay cut by 20% when the factory owner brings in some Manchu thugs to try and increase production. Desperate to reclaim their full wages, the workers hire an actor to impersonate a priest and kung-fu expert from the temple of Shaolin. The factory owner proves the actor a fraud, and punishes all those involved. The young actor feels he has let the workers down, and promises to atone. He sets out for Shaolin, determined to be accepted as a kung-fu pupil at the elite temple.

Do not go into this film expecting a sequel to The 36th Chamber of Shaolin because this film is nowhere near as good and though its the same main actor Gordon Liu Chia-Hui, who for what it's worth he is pretty good the film its self is super goofy and unlike the first one it hasn't got a super interesting story. I will say for Kung Fu fans you can enjoy the last 20 minutes as it has a truly unique action scene at the end with the way it handles its Kung Fu, but I will say it is a skip for me and I will say it disappointed me after the first film.

Return to the 36th Chamber is pretty much a retelling of The 36th Chamber of Shaolin with comedy. The kung-fu is just as fun, but the story is pretty weak compared to the first one. The comedy is mostly to blame for this, as this particular brand of slapstick comedy is an acquired taste. This doesn't mean it's not entertaining, but I certainly enjoy the first one much more. The standout moment in this one is the final showdown, which is up there with the best of them.
