Yet another terrific movie from Clint Eastwood - he's a much better director than actor. All the actors played their part well and the story flows without getting bogged down. 10/10

@speeddemon Yep agreed. A movie so breath taking its made me want to finally sort out all my trakt ratings. (thanks Plex for screwing them up.) The bottom line is when it's done I really need to review what I previously (deliberately) scored a 10/10. <br /> They no longer can be since I saw this Gem.

A very interesting and compelling story that is conveyed by a very poorly written script.
It's polarises between melodrama with the victimisation of Jewell and his mother and the slutty journalist that sleeps her way to a first page story (for which there is no evidence) and the over zealous FBI agents that will go to any length to convict Jewell (which is not how it went down at all).
So between the shock value (that's made up) and the melodrama there isn't enough to turn a great story into a great film.

Eastwood is a very effective filmmaker, his movies tend to have zero bells and whistles. _Richard Jewell_ is a prime example of that, although it doesn’t have its heart in the right place. The way this film depicts the media and particularly journalists is fucking despicable. I don’t mind that you’re going to vilify or criticize the news media, but then there has to be some substance behind it (or, you have to play it for laughs, so in a tongue in cheek sort of way). It’s abundantly clear, even when you’re watching this, that a lot of this is simplified, and even deceptive. I tend to give movies a pass for taking some licence in order to create a dramatic effect, but that’s not the case here. This movie is consciously dishonest in order to push an agenda, and it’s gross. Having said that, I also can’t deny that the acting is very solid, and the interrogation scenes are pretty well done. The characters are solid, and the movie is tense in the moments where it needs to be. I’m not going to recommend it, but you could also do a lot worse.

4.5/10

This is an excellent film from Clint Eastwood!

Firstly, what a terrific performance from Paul Walter Hauser! He plays lead perfectly, as he makes it impossible not to root for the titular character - which is admittedly a given due to the plot, but Hauser adds an extra level of believability to proceedings. I felt every intended emotion.

Sam Rockwell does very good behind Hauser, as do Kathy Bates and Olivia Wilde. Jon Hamm is good, too, as he returns to an Eastwood flick, having made his film debut in the latter's 'Space Cowboys' nineteen years prior.

Portraying a messed up true event, 'Richard Jewell' is a film that I'd most definitely suggest you check out. 9/10 from me.

The FBI and the media are not very well portrayed in this story where the protagonist, luckily, in the end was not as stupid as he seemed.

From director Clint Eastwood comes the tragic, true story Richard Jewell. After security guard Richard Jewell discovers a bomb in Centennial Park during the 1996 Summer Olympics and helps save people from the explosion he’s praised as a hero, but the FBI soon targets him as the bomber, despite having no evident, and destroys his life. Featuring Sam Rockwell, Jon Hamm, Olivia Wilde, Kathy Bates, and Paul Walter Hauser, the film has a strong cast that delivers some excellent (and award winning) performances. And Eastwood does an impressive job at heightening the tension and suspense as the FBI closes in on Jewell, entrapping him. Incredibly powerful, Richard Jewell is a cautionary tale of how easily an innocent man’s life can be ruined by reckless and irresponsible journalists and law enforcement officers.

Intensely moving, and yet another reminder of the abuses of power within the justice system. A good yet sad film, but thank goodness for the many people like Richard Jewell, striving to make a difference in support of the protection of others.

I had no idea about the case so the approach and the story telling was ok. It felt way to dragged long and very stupid as evidence and approach from the FBI. It was all a big charade. Hauser was magnificent and i do not believe the movie will be watchable without him.

Great film by Clint Eastwood highlighting the social injustices of society. True story of Richard Jewell who discover the bomb during the Olympics in Atlanta. Later he was accused of being the bomber. This story is about the downward spiral of a hero unjustly accused of a crime and the crucifixion in the media. Great performances. A great watch.

Another great film from Mr. Eastwood. Don’t care about his politics, don’t care about the accuracy of this story. It’s a entertaining film. Acting was superb, Paul Walter Hauser, Sam Rockwell and the always excellent Kathy Bates are just amazing.

Great movie and thrillingly underrated, great acting and directing, I don't know why it's not nominated for acting and directing in Oscars! Totally recommended
