well made, decent acting but a little to boring for my taste

Finally, a film about Jesus that isn't sterile, watered-down or soft as a MyPillow. Or perhaps, a film that isn't made by a Hollywood director looking for an excuse to show off special effects using the epic tales found in the Bible, but dismissing the message of the story.

I liked "Risen" a lot, maybe a bit more than I should have. But if so, it's because it was refreshing to see the material covered with what I thought was great respect. If I watched it a second time, might I be more critical? Probably. I'd likely start to pick apart the film itself or look for story inaccuracies or inconsistencies. But for now, I thought this was great.

The only criticism I really have is that I thought the disciples were a little too "hippie" or something. I guess my personal image of them over the years has been of stern, serious men.

I'd heard good things about this movie, but I was sceptical, having watched too many bad depictions of 1st century Judea and a sentimentalize version of the message of Jesus. I'm am so glad to have worried in vain. This movie was respectful of history, superbly cast, well written, not sentimentalized, in the least, and a good watch. They even cast a convincingly Jewish Jesus. I give it a 9 (superb) out of 10.

INSPIRING AND TOUCHING TRIBUNE CLAVIUS CONVERSION STORY!

A good movie! It's a pity that other guys comment on the quality of some bad stream they found. Not doing this movie any justice! Joseph Fiennes acting is great. The body language, his expressions build an amazing role. There are a few disturbing scenes of violence, but they are necessary to show what the hero goes through, they really add to the plot. There are also a few downsides: the scene of a thief dying on the cross is so fake acting, you'll probably laugh. And then showing Mary Magdalene as a "woman of the streets" is inaccurate if you go by the scriptures. It was another Mary who was mentioned as such. This is basic stuff that the director got all wrong. But hey, overall this is a movie you will certainly enjoy.

This movie about a Roman centurion who has to find Jesus's body couldn't get a rise out of me like it did Jesus.

The digital photography made this epic feel like an epic plastic replica, but the sets were good and the actors often were.

A good Cath-flick for your parents on Easter, but not much else.

Risen is a powerful biblical drama that takes a unique look at the Resurrection story. After putting down the latest Jewish rebellion Roman Tribune Clavius is charged with overseeing the crucifixion of the self-proclaimed Messiah Yeshua; but things take an unexpected turn when Yeshua’s body disappears from his tomb, forcing Clavius to lead an intensive search to find it in order to prevent his follows from proclaiming a miracle and inciting another rebellion that would bring down the wrath of Caesar. Starring Joseph Fiennes, Tom Felton, Peter Firth, and Cliff Curtis, the cast is quite strong and delivers some impressive performances. And, the production values are especially good; particularly the score, which is remarkably evocative and full of sweeping themes. Inspirational and compelling, Risen is a visionary film with a fresh new perspective on the death and resurrection of Christ.

Well meaning film and putting the focus on an outsider's perspective on Jesus' resurrection is a useful one. As with the recent 'The Young Messiah,' the film fills in the gaps missing from Bible accounts and imagines events as they may have been. Enjoyable and thought provoking.

Great idea, great movie. First part more than the second. Inevitably some ludicrousness will ensue given the story it's based on. But then soon it's over before it becomes too cheesy.

I liked the first half more, taking the route of a detective story is an interesting view. But then it takes the touchy-feely cliché route those movies often do and the two halves don´t mix well.

Not a bad movie in general but the "epic Biblical story" feels rather small here.

Good film, only downside is that the lipsync is out by about 4 seconds #ShiftvW8
