A Murder mystery starring Wesley Snipes and the late great Sean Connery? Heck yes! It sounded like such a fun combination and it is but in the end it was a bummer.

Rising Sun is a murder mystery directed by Philip Kaufman, based on a book by Michael Crichton. Web and Conner (Snipes and Connery) need to solve a murder of a call girl during a party. East and West collide, who has done it, a sleazy reporter (Steve Buscemi). video editing, pubic hair, Sean Connery speaking Japanese, a little bit of action, some one-liners and a bummer of an ending.

Somehow I thought this one would highly entertain me, but maybe it was because I was a bit tired, but the movie felt like it didn't come to an end, and about three quarters in, I lost my interest in the story a bit. However it is fun to see Sean Connery play off Wesley Snipes in his 90s prime.

Ok...I seemed to remember this one as much better than it really is. Even had it on VHS way back when...now I was just bored.

Connery is not very good in this one, and neither is Snipes. The script is not exciting in the least, and you see the twists coming a mile away. There's also a lot of "weird" stuff happening. Not Japanese weird, but just plain weird. I haven't read the book, and if it all resembles this movie, I probably never will. Though...One redeeming factor is seeing Tia Carrere in her prime again. Always a pleasure!

Rising Sun is not worth your time...plain and simple. You can always watch Wayne's World for a glimpse of Tia Carrere. At least then you won't be bored to shits...

The United States obsessed with a new rival, at least a commercial one: Japan.

Modern noir in the 90ties. I have watched this one at least 10 times over the years. Always come back for a nice brainless flashback.

It surprised me less than when I saw it years ago, but it's still good

Decent modern noir. The mystery is kept twisting through different turns, and there are some unique characters and interactions, but ultimately the sum is not equal to its parts, as the movie isn't as riveting as it should be...
