It's interesting seeing Kaley Cuoco in something more than just the big bang theory I have been seeing her pop up in other things overall recently but all I can see her as is the person being a waiter at in the TV show of the the big bang theory TV show I watched so much on CBS. I don't know what it is about her there's just this energy about her, that just keeps her going. I just noticed shes like 2 years away from turning 40 just shocking. Shes a good actor she does well. The only sad thing is that if your going to be an actor don't stick to one role as one character for too long or you will only be known for that girl for doing that TV show that ended (the big bang theroy). I just noticed that she's the voice of Harley Quinn for a TV Cartoon show and other things, I can totally picture her as being Harley quinn that's great vibe. When actors are voice actors that's always great cause overall that could be easier overall to preform. But yeah it's good to see that she's done quite a lot I didn't notice how much stuff she has done I think a good amount of it has been in voice so it hasn't been as noticeable to me, great to see Kaley Cuoco doing great.

Film 125 (Goal: 300) of 2024:

Role Play is the newest addition into the already tired genre of finding out your partner has a double life, with perhaps the standout being James Cameron's True Lies. This is not that. This is tired and bland. My enjoyment of this film, of which was pretty fleeting, comes predominantly from the scenes that Bill Nighy is in. He's here for a good time, not a long time and as usual, he's the best thing in any scene he's in.

I like Kaley Cuoco - always have. But I could not connect with her character at all. David Oyelowo is a fantastic actor but he's not given anything to do here. He's potential is just wasted. Connie Nielsen is God awful, with her delivery of lines being stone faced and life less. This wooden performance is compounded in the ultimately forgettable 3rd act. The film, which earlier had sparingly decent moments forgoes that for a slog of a finale.

Role Play joins a long list of streaming comedies (though this may be considered more of an action-comedy, despite it being light on both) that fail to leave a mark, a worrying trend for comedies all round.

It wasn't bad. But honestly I'm very very disappointed this isn't a TV show. I misread the trailer and wasn't expecting a movie. I think this would have been amazing as TV show. It could have done what the True Lies tv show failed to do. It would have done what I expect the upcoming Mr and Mrs Smith show will fail to do. Kaley did a solid job as an action character. She's no Megan Fox in Rogue but she was solid. I'm not her biggest fan but I don't hate her and respect where respect is due. Her acting was more than Okay. David however like the plot was underfulfilled. I think he could have done more with his character of the straightman muggle husband. The script just didn't give any room for it. Antagonists Bill Nighy and Connie Nielsen were likeably bad. Though Connie was under written. I didn't really get that slightly psychotic character from her the way the script seemed to want me to.

Almost every problem I had with this would have been resolved if it had been a full season length. Heck I might have even bonded with the kids. They could be given personalities.

@wolfkin That is why they are making a show of Mr and Mrs Smith. I have the same opinion as you when i first saw that movie. i thought "that will make an excellent tv show" it took a couple of years.<br /> But this is soooo wasted in many movies, a woman or a man that has a secret life of assassin, or a former CIA employee or similar.

@great_vc I know it's not out yet but I'm not a fan of what I've seen of Mr and Mrs Smith the TV show. I'm not a fan of the changes to the character dynamics (everything seems to indicate they aren't hiding their spy-status from each other) and more importantly I don't like the chemistry of the show. I like the actors individually but I don't like what I see of them working well together. One thing I'll say about Role Play is that even in the trailers I was kinda pleasantly surprised at how good the leads looked together and the chemistry continued in the film. Even True Lies the TV show I think the leads had good chemistry. The writing was just not interesting unfortunately. It had moments but only moments.<br /> <br /> That said I have very famously been wrong in the past. Heck I was super super against lady Starbuck and Black Spider-Man but in both cases I've been converted. I love the Spider-Verse films and was a fan of Miles shortly before they came out. BSG for like 3 seasons, was one of the best scifi epic shows not named Farscape. I'm definitely watching Mr. and Mrs Smith. I like Maya and Donald is usually fine. Maybe I'll be proven wrong and get to add another notch at the "I clearly can't predict goodness" belt.

FULL SPOILER-FREE REVIEW @ https://www.firstshowing.net/2024/review-cuoco-oyelowos-role-play-film-is-not-a-bad-start-to-2024/

"Role Play follows expectations, both good and bad. While the main performances, particularly from Kaley Cuoco, breathe life into the characters, most of the supporting cast falls prey to uninspired dialogue. The narrative, though formulaic and predictable, maintains a rather lively pace, ensuring a sustained interest.

As a few other issues emerge, these are somewhat compensated by the filmmaker's commitment to providing a light-hearted, fun, entertaining movie that aims to offer families a good time without much seriousness."

Anyone remember Henry Goulding's "Assassin Club" (2023)? Well if you add that in with the repetitive bits from "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" (2005) then you will arrive at something akin to this unremarkable thriller. "Emma" (Kaley Cuoco) is married to "Dave" (David Oyelowo) but she has a secret. She's part of an international organisation that gets paid to kill folk. She wants to leave that organisation and so it declares open season. Meantime she and her husband decide to celebrate their anniversary by hooking up in an hotel bar and pretending that they'd never met before - an opportunity for some good on fashioned courting and a few vodka Martinis. Enter the scene saving Bill Nighy as the ostensibly single old fellow alone in the hotel trying to hit on her. Of course, he's not quite what he seems and a slightly comedic scenario ensues. Sadly, though, thereafter this is all just a standard cat and mouse adventure with loads of set piece out of the frying pan into the fire escapades that gradually draw in her unwitting husband, their children and of course some family baggage from her past courtesy of Connie Nielsen. As ever, the menacing baddies couldn't shoot their way out of a rice-paper bag and her ninja skills become the stuff of "Kung Fu" - only without any sense of mystery or subtlety. The acting is stiff and the dialogue must have taken a few more Martinis to concoct before resorting to the "Janet and John" book of college film scripting. I wonder just how many more deadly killers there are lurking around the suburbs of small American towns! Fills the television screen whilst you're doing the ironing, maybe - it certainly does not need your full concentration!
