What a terrible film. I saw it because of the 10 Academy Award nominations it received. While watching it all I could think is that there must be twist coming, but it never did. After two hours it ended having made no real point.

During the Academy Award ceremony it was introduced as a best picture nominee. In the introduction, it was described as a film about (I'm paraphrasing) ...life in 1971, when .women and service workers were overlooked and men were absent.. I gasped and exclaimed "Is that what it was supposed to be about?!"

It appears that nothing much has changed since 1971 as I couldn't tell the difference between then and now. The film simply showed the humdrum of every day life for many women then and now. How out of touch the members of the Academy or Arts and Sciences are if they think that life is somehow different today. I consider it an insult to women globally who are still oppressed and/or abandoned, left to raise children alone with little social or economic standing, just as it was 50 years ago.

If the films intent was to highlight these hardships, it should have been about what it would be like if equality between men and women actually existed. Then the absurdity of how large that gap still is would be clear. As is the film may well have been set in 2019, be in colour and apart from set design and costumes, it would be the same boring film.
