As I remember it, Rumble in the Bronx was my first real meeting with Jackie Chan on the big screen and began a life long fascination with this, rather "special", martial artist. So...I might be a smidgeon biased with this one.

This is my first re-watch in quite a while, and Rumble in the Bronx is just how I remember it. Very stunt-driven, has cartoonish villains, a superhero good guy, a fair share of inept law enforcement, and a story that's barely holding everything together. So very typical for a Jackie Chan movie.

If you like these kinds of movies, this is heaven. If you are not used to the upbeat and cartoonish world of Jackie Chan, it might throw you off a bit, but I don't think you'll have that bad a time.

Anyway...I really like it, and will recommend it to anyone who asks.

Oh yeah...as usual...watch the beginning of the end credits. You'll thank me.

Chan's first American hit is brimming with iconic stunt peices, occasional humor, garishly villanous baddies and complete sidelining of any other character but Jackie Chan. As usual, the climax sequence was amazing. Laughable plot but, action that seemingly only Chan can pull off made this movie good.

Peak Jackie Chan; his most attractive movie. Not only does it have humour, heart and amazingly choreographed fight scenes like most of Jackie's movies it also features Jackie working out and wearing the best costumes of his career. Do you long for a time when stone washed denim was easily paired with a singlet and more stone washed denim? Adult onesies are all the rage now, but this 90's Jackie Chan onesie will make you rethink all your life choices. How can one man look so cute like a super muscular baby and also like a badass crime fighting tea drinking vigilante? the micro onesie - one size does not fit all!

Jackie Chan's major American breakthrough remains his most energetic, entertaining spectacle. The film's storyline is a joke, with supposedly hardcore Bronx motorcycle gangs coming off like villains from a Saturday morning cartoon, but that's clearly not the point. The plot's only there to fill the space between fight scenes with a few randomly antagonizing situations, and in many instances the total lack of any connection with reality is actually quite charming.

The real focus, naturally, is on Chan's inventive use of his surroundings and blistering hand speed during frequent clashes with gaudily-dressed bikers and, later on, suit-and-sunglasses adorned g-men. Regardless of locale, Jackie is somehow able to find an unsuspecting prop, then quickly put it to use in bludgeoning somewhere in the range of a dozen different combatants in wildly original ways, keeping audiences surprised and indulged. A kindergarten-grade story won't win this rumble any awards, but as a vehicle for its star's own inimitable style of celluloid-friendly martial arts it's perfect.
