Schramm is a grimy, character-study horror film that reminded me a lot of Henry: Portrait or a Serial Killer. This is not a long film, and it is told in a non-linear fashion - the idea is supposed to be that our titular character, Lothar Schramm, is flashing back on his life as he dies - but it just came across as a way of making up for the slow pace.
I heard about Schramm on one of those "disturbing-movie lists," and that's mainly what this offers, we have: [spoiler]only one actual murder - which is surprising for a movie about a serial killer, a suicide, a severed leg, an eye removal, a cock nailing, a Cronenberg monster, and Schramm fucking an inflatable torso. The effects are okay. I thought the eye scene was good. It was difficult to tell if the cock nailing scene was real or not, since there was a cut before the rammer struck, but it looked pretty real after that. The fucking of the sex toy was very real.[/spoiler]
Aside from that, there's not much going on here. Lothar is in his apartment for most of the runtime. So, aside from the aforementioned shock moments, it's just a guy at home. Any fans of extreme horror will want to see this, if only to check it off the list.
