A decent adopted Stephen King Novel: Morty Rainey (Johnny Depp) is a lovesick nearly-divorced writer and accused of having stolen the story of this other writer "Shooter". Thrilling and with nice plot-twists.

Has anyone read the book "The Invasion of Heaven" by Michael B. Koep? No, I did not spell that wrong or screw up the name. (Re: David Koepp, the director and the guy who wrote the screenplay.) The whole time watching the movie, I keep thinking of this book. There were so many similar elements between the two. Afterwards, I go and pull the book off my shelf and see the slight differences in names and their profiles are very different. That's an odd last name. Then the fact that there were so many similarities between the story really blew my mind. Almost like within the movie itself. I'm truly not sure what to think of this.

I'd really love to find someone who has both seen this movie and read the book to see what they think.

I miss when Johnny Depp would be in these random movies instead of just blockbusters. While predictable, he makes it entertaining enough.

“It’s all about the ending.” _Secret Window_ is a brilliantly crafted psychological thriller that keeps its secrets through well-placed misdirection and suspense that both engages the audience and brings them into the story. When novelist Mort Rainey is confronted by a mysterious stranger named John Shooter who accuses Rainey of stealing his manuscript and demands reparations, Rainey attempts to prove that he didn’t steal it but is thwarted at every turn. The directing is exceptional, through the eye of director David Koepp we get inside of the mind of Mort Rainey, hear his thoughts and see through his eyes, all the while providing hints ever so subtlety about who John Shooter is, Mort’s shadowy past, and the origin of the Secret Window. Johnny Depp, John Turturro, and Maria Bello lead the cast and give excellent performances. Smart and engrossing, _Secret Window_ is a masterpiece of suspense and terror that’s among the best of Stephen King’s adapted works.

Talk about missing the point of King's fantastic novella. Depp is the only thing holding this shambles together.

I found Secret Window to be entertaining enough but generic twist and weak story telling drag it down. I enjoy Johnny Depp's role even though his character wasn't the most likeable. The rest of the cast is fine. I just think that the story could've been a bit more ambitious.

Full of clichés. I enjoyed the film's mood, tho. Johnny's acting never lets me down.

"This is not my beautiful house. This is not my beautiful wife. Anymore."

Even when Johnny Depp is playing a character who on paper isn't anything else than just a normal guy, and yet, Depp still manages to bring some chaotic magic to it.

John Turturro was also great in this.

idk, for me it was kinda predictable and boring, it also didnt make sense that it was "so hard" to check the plagiarism*, but I guess the age of the movie plays a role in that, nowadays with the internet it would've been much easier and quicker to check it out. At least I was wondering why he didn't go for the magazine sooner or why he didnt do something about it, like if it been me Id went for the magazine straight away or settle it with my lawyer or do anything I can to prove I didnt stole the story. Especially when Im seriously threatened and bad things starts to happen?? So that was suspicious and his whole behaviour was weird like instead of calling the police about the bodies in the car he gets rid of it etc..
the twist with shoot her was nice but everything else is just meh [/spoiler]

@snwcre but there was no plagiarism! It was all a manifestation from his alter ego in order justify him killing everyone and especially his wife and her boyfriend.

@brok21k yeah I know, I meant it was obvious its not real / only in his head bc he didn't make any efforts to defend himself officially, that he didn't like say go to his lawyer/assistant (whoever does the legal stuff for writers) and make efforts to clear it / prove that hes in the right.. thats what made me suspicious (at least how I remember it, my last watch is a few months old now haha)
