This is a weird mix of drama, comedy and crime.

The main character really believes in Feng Shui and other asian esoteric stuff and all his life basically revolves around it. It is not clear what he really does for a living by the way, as it is never really show as a source of revenue.

On one hand, everything related to that is presented almost as a joke. There is no way to take it seriously. On the other, every time something bad happens to someone, it is emphasized that the _formations_ and other good luck charms are knocked out or destroyed beforehand.

The change of pace and style needs some getting used to. Intro starts on comedy with a ridiculous fake burial ritual. But it rapidly turns to a gruesome crime thriller with a serial prostitute killer and a pretty graphic murder.
Then comes the mix of drama (the desire to stop the kid from becoming a murderer) mixed with the feng shui comedy again and the ironic failures.

But when you just get used to it, it switches again when realizing the feng shui master is actually probably
crazy
up to
completely mad
at the end. Though in theory this could have been an interesting development, and you can see the gradual changes in the character, it seems somehow distracting more than adding to the story (though scenario-wise that's what brings the final situation).

Most interesting part of the story is the kid's evolution. Will he kill or not ?

The recurring cat is one of the worst CGI ever. This does not look like a cat, nor move like one. Also seems to teleport. That's pretty ridiculous.

_Mad Fate_ is a riveting watch because the performances are great and the premise is vastly different than what you’re probably used to seeing in thrillers touching on similar concepts. The ending is a little bizarre as it takes a severe plunge into illogical territory — not to mention the use of CGI (all of the animals are computer generated) being lackluster at best.

For the most part, though, _Mad Fate_ is incredibly original and masterfully dances around whether or not our fates are actually chiseled in stone.
