Glen Powell and the endlessly charming Zoey Deutch have great chemistry in a cute, funny but in the end fairly by-the-numbers romcom. _Set it Up_ doesn't do anything particularly new or innovative, but it didn't need to.

It mainly works, it's comfortable, and it's a Netflix watch that you won't regret.

Predictable as hell, but yet, I love it despite that.

The personal assistant characters are solid and work well together. The bosses are horrible caricatures, but they even have their moments.

Some really funny bits are worked in that don't feel like they take away from the story of the main characters.

It's a nice movie and a fun easy watch. Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell have amazing chemistry together and are a lot of fun to watch. Gay Pete Davidson is hilarious.

I love good romantic comedies but I've come to the conclusion that they have forgotten how to write them. This film was crass, vacuous and devoid of romance (by any of it's definitions). Despite the potential of casting, this didn't work for me. I give this a 3 (bad) out of 10. Sorry Netflix, you blew it. [Romantic? Comedy? nah!]

@nancy-l-draper I have a little bit of trouble seeing eye to eye with you. Would you care to elaborate on how it was "crass, vacuous, and devoid of romance"?

I actually very much enjoyed the more "realistic" approach of romance of two people spending time together and slowly building up their attraction to one another. It's a refreshing alternative to the traditional "Oh I met 1 hour ago you and you're my soulmate, so let's bring up the grandiose declarations of love".

I also can't see how you would argue that this wasn't funny. Me and my group of friends were chuckling throughout the movie, and I genuinely think the movie was very funny, by any kind of standard. So, since you comment on it not being funny, I suppose you enjoy comedies, and I can't help but wonder why do you think that this movie was so far from being funny? What are some comedies that you like, and how is that humor so different from this movie's?

Finally, I don't think that in any case a rating of 3 is fair. It feels to me to be a very emotional rating, since the production is solid: this movie is well made, well-shot, and the acting is stellar. In my book, these qualities put a movie at about 5, and then the story takes care of the rest. So I strongly believe that your rating is very emotional and not very rational, or that you are truly oblivious to really bad movies, in which case I can give a few recommendations of truly horrendous movies, so you can get some perspective of what, at least in my book, deserves sub-5 ratings.

I don't intend to be abrupt or anything, and sorry if any part of my reply seems offensive, I just saw the movie yesterday and really enjoyed it, and I honestly think that your review is unfair. We all have different tastes and preferences, but even then I think that this movies is not worth a rating of 3. :)

@manos_th - We will have to agree to disagree. If you feel so strongly about this movie you should cut and paste your opinion into your own comment.

"Funny" is very subjective, so our sense of humour may be very different - it happens, no judgement. As for RomComs I enjoy - LOVE ACTUALLY and ABOUT TIME might be representative.

One further comment on your reply to my review - because you disagree with my evaluation criteria doesn't make mine more emotional and yours more rational, just different. If you agree with my reviews of films more often than not then follow me. If you don't, don't feel you need to school me in your perspective, write your own reviews. I usually read most of them and especially note those who's ratings are the polar opposite of mine so I can see things from another's perspective.

The other thing I learned from writing my original review of this film was that it was the third RomCom in a row that I felt was lacking any real sense of intimacy or romance (the classic definition of romance is to elevate an ideal or the object of an ideal - hence the Romantic Poets - I found this film neither striving to elevate a higher Ideal of love or holding precious the subject of their affection. I found the lovers to be very self seeking and vacuous). Resulting from that frustration with the new RomComs I began wondering if I lam more drawn to RomDramas, but, then again, I have a number of cherished RomComs on my favourite list so I've made no decision, yet, to abandoned hope in the modern RomCom.

I'm sorry if you took my review personally as "unfair". It was just meant as a personal reflection and response to the film. I am OK with people having dissenting opinions.

@nmanos_th - To show you that I took your comment to heart, I refer you to a movie I watched and reviewed this evening. Perhaps that review better states my expectation of Romance - https://trakt.tv/movies/their-finest-2017

I really liked that the movie made a distinction between Charlie’s boss and Harper’s boss at the end; Rick was clearly a self-entitled arsehole, but Kirsten was just a badass woman in power. Those are two very different things, and I’m glad the movie made that so clear!

ALL TIME FAV ROM COM! Cannot stress enough how much I love this movie. Stumbled upon it randomly and my bff and I were literally dying laughing and rooting so hard for them to be together. To this day, I still use the “love you despite” thing. I think that was sooooo cute. 10/10

There is nothing new to expect but it’s a nice attempt. If you are kind of looking for a movie to pass time then this might be on your list _(considering you like Romantic Comedy movies)_ .

Also, it’s already included in your Netflix Subscription. I think it doesn’t hurt to watch as long as you have sometime.

I feel deceived. Some of the reviewers on this page led me to believe this was going to be a good film, despite my reservations. They lured me in with encouraging words, setting me up for a date with a film I had previously resisted. And the end result? Disappointment. The film was predictable and leaden, and despite the occasional bit of humour, there is little to recommend here. Don't fall for the trap I did - get out while you can and watch something else.

I’d suggest viewing IMDb user ratings or Metacritic ratings if you’re that concerned about it. It’s entertaining to see what people had to say here, but certainly not a way to get an overall assessment of a movie.
