I may have been spoiled by non-Hollywood movies on this but everyone speaking English - Pitt with a ridiculous accent, no less - is very distracting. Still an enjoyable movie though.

White savior with a bad accent: the movie. It's very much of its time. But then again, Kundun came out at the same time that has aged much better.

Decent movie, but it completely fails to tell the Tibetian story. It's true once again: the Hollywood narrative doesn't suit the novel.

We, as humanity, could learn a lot from Tibet and the Dalai Lama. We need to eliminate the ego as it is the source of all evil. What people fail to understand is that evil is not a separate entity that is outside of us, it is inside all of us and it is a choice to choose the white or dark path of human behaviour.

I’m not sure why I’ve never seen this movie before now but, wow, that was not a great movie. Pitt’s fake accent is so bad, it’s distracting. The story of this arrogant, narcissistic individual that is only ever redeemed in the last few minutes of the movie and to what end? Only to mould his son into a mini version of himself. Really not learning the lessons of Buddhism or the Dalai Lama.

I watched this film again after a long time not seeing it and for some reason I did not like it as much as I thought I did, when I saw it last. Maybe it's because I've read the book in the meantime...who knows. The story is impressive and amazing nevertheless but the movie itself is lacking in a lot of aspects. But still enjoyable to watch.
