Without SLJ this would be a mediocre movie. And that's how it felt until he had his entrance. From that moment on, the movie really gets rolling. Nobody plays "cool" like him.

But I don't think I would want to see another _Shaft_ movie with Junior.

I'm surprised Sam Jackson didn't break his back from holding up this whole god-damn movie.

I didn't think anything really landed properly except the scenes with him in it, but the scenes with him seemed to really sell how awesome Shaft is meant to be. I'm still not sure if it was intentionally written that way or not.

Man, we also could have done with a Richard Roundtree coming in a lot sooner. Something just felt good having the three generations of Shaft was so satisfying.

It's a pretty cool movie if you're all about the action sequences, quiet-kid-turned-capoeira-slayer, matching outfits, and SLJ.
it's all about style over substance and if that's something that rocks your boat. then let it.

Has its moments once Jackson appears, but overall poor.
The movie tries to mix "millenials" cinema with late 90s action movie cinema and it doesn't mix.
It's cringey a lot of times while at the same time tries to be self-aware of those "fragile" millenials while still being politically incorrect, racist and sexist at the same time.

The (most likely intended) irony about that in this movie does not pass me and is actually neat in some scenes.
But it still doesn't work as a movie.
Is it watchable? For the most part, yes. Recommendable, though? Nahh.

A perfect balance between humor and action, making for an entertaining and enjoyable viewing experience. The film's witty script, combined with the comedic timing of the cast, results in many laugh-out-loud moments. The film's action sequences are well-executed and thrilling, with plenty of car chases and shootouts to keep the adrenaline pumping. Overall, a fun and entertaining action-comedy.

I'm not a big action film fan but I can appreciate a good one, and this was entertaining.

Despite the fact that Shaft's origin is in the blaxsploitation era, with all the negative stereotyping associated with that, it has progressed and evolved into something encouraging. I particularly like that this is literally and figuratively the modern "grandchild", highlighting and uplifting a positive legacy of the black man.

It was a pure fun action film. Poor plot but hey, it made me laugh out loud so many times I actually enjoyed watching it. I still like the old school Shaft theme song though. The movie felt like they replaced Senior with Junior. But I guess the point of the film is having all the 3 Shafts (Senior2x, Senior, and Junior) together. idk

A lazy attempt to reboot/revive the franchise, Shaft is a crude action-comedy with no imagination. When FBI analyst John Shaft Jr. investigates the death of a friend he’s forced to seek out the help of his estranged father. Jackson does a real disservice to his character (who he reprises from the 2000 version) by turning him into a negative stereotype (the womanizing deadbeat dad). And, there’s some reconning to try to bring all the Shaft films into continuity. The film also attempts to explore masculinity and what it means to be a man today as opposed to in previous generations; but it does an incredibly poor job of it and ends up being a jumbled mess. The plot too is kind of convoluted and is full of clichés. A cat that definitely doesn’t deliver 10 times out of 10, Shaft is a jive turkey.

This is what Samuel m f Jackson is made for :)
Your going to have such a bad time if you're politically correct and feel uncomfortable whenever you hear swearing.
