In 1992, teenager Sandi Tan shot Singapore's first indie road movie with her enigmatic American mentor Georges – who then vanished with all the footage. Twenty years later, the 16mm film is recovered, sending Tan, now a novelist in Los Angeles, on a personal odyssey in search of Georges' vanishing footprints.

This wasn't as good as I was expecting it to be. I don't know. This was just about a rich girl living a very privileged life and hanging out with a possible pedophile, who also stole her film (I still can't understand where can an unemployed girl in her 16s can withdraw 10K in cash from an ATM). The movie they were shooting seems like was a very artsy and boring piece. The only thing good about this was the vintage videos of Singapore from the past.

A striking homage to film making and film loving and all the ramifications, wonders, dangers and vulnerabilities of making a movie. It starts off a little pretentious but the story is just so fascinating and new that it really drives the film.

I saw this documentary on some "best of 2018" lists and for the life of me I can't figure out why. Is the central story somewhat interesting? Sure. I think there is a great irony in the statement that the director/star made towards the end of the doc. She acknowledged that she was a More

Shirkers is an amazing documentary about being able to realize some version of a dream after it has been completely shattered. Anyone who has ever contemplated making a film or even got so far as making one has experienced what Sandi Tam did in some way. This is her way of reflecting on the past and More
