It's not as bad as critics said. It's watchable. Except for the horrible scene during the party.

One of the most notorious box office bombs, Showgirls is a satirical exploitation film from Paul Verhoeven. The story follows a drifter named Nomi who hitchhikes to Las Vegas and struggles to become a dancer for a high-profile burlesques show at the prestigious Stardust casino. The plot is ridiculously stupid and poorly written; especially the dialog (which is atrocious). And Elizabeth Berkley’s performance is awful; as the she comes off as violently schizophrenic. Additionally, the gratuitous nudity is tasteless and vulgar. An insipid piece of garbage, Showgirl is spectacularly bad.

Saw it sometime when I was a kid. Then it was good, and very nervous that my parents would find out that I was watching it .. remember nothing more than I saw the movie, haha :)

Good?
Hell No!!!

Sexy?
Sometimes...

Horrendous acting?
Mostly...

Cringy pool sex?
Of course!

Trashy?
You Bet!!!

Fun?
Hell Yeah!!!!!

Conclusions...
Paul Verhoeven is a genius and a bit of a pervert (we all knew that anyway), Elizabeth Berkley can't act if her life depended on it, Gina Gershon and Kyle MacLachlan had most likely no idea what they said yes to, and... There's no reason NOT to watch this in 4K.

this movie vexes me. it is irredeemably bad. but it knows, at every turn of its plot, what a good movie would do. and then it executes on that knowledge in the most bizarre possible way.

showgirls knows it should establish common ground, a shared history, between elizabeth berkley and gina gershon to demonstrate that they're mirrors of each other. it chooses to do this by giving us a conversation between these two where they talk about eating dog food.

awful. fascinating. i have watched it six times.

Like a soft porn remake of _A Star is Born_ with Apollonia from _Purple Rain_ in every role.

Warning: Your cringe muscle is going to get one hell of a workout.

Elizabeth Berkley can be rather 'intense' in her performance but the reputation of Showgirls as a bad movie is rather undeserved. It's overlong for sure & does throw in extra side plots & revenge is tied up swiftly in comparison to the story setup.
