I find the acclaim for this film surprising. I found it to be painfully predicable from very early on, it was practically phoned in, and it made the whole last act just drag on. I got to the point that I'd joined enough dots that I just wanted it to end and it was only Oscar winner Robert Richardson's photography that kept me engaged.

DiCaprio was great; once again Scorsese draws out the best in him. There's never a doubt it's a Scorsese film either, but he's taken weaker material and turned it into a better film.

"Which would be worse - to live as a monster, or to die as a good man?"

A great film noir movie from Scorsese. I like seeing something a little different from him. Leonardo DiCaprio is fantastic, as usual. The story is great and benefits a lot from a rewatch. The island looks great and really creepy.

Great movie! Longer than it needed to be/should have been. Acting was top notch. Somewhat predictable, but even with that it's still totally worth watching.

Omfg... this movie was so incredibly amazing. The epitome of a psychological thriller...very interesting, unexpected, and captivating. The characters! Everything?! So sad as well, that it literally brought me to tears. Leonardo's acting in itself, is insanity.

A beautiful and unnerving depiction of the human mind.

I'm a Dennis Lehane fan. I can tell you the book is far better than this. This is a simple drama, without any specials pictures. I think that the book from Lehane has a very dark, really depressing stroy telling, and I absolutely recommend you that read the book. Same thinking about the Mystic River.

It's a great cast. The cinematography is great. I just felt it was predictable. Maybe I just waited too long to watch it even though I didn't discuss it with anyone.

I do like how the ending finished the story though.

"Shutter Island" effectively blends neo-noir crime investigation thriller and psychological horror. US Marshals Teddy Daniels investigates the disappearance of a patient at the Ashecliffe Hospital for the criminally insane on Shutter Island. During the investigation, he realizes that the asylum has more than one secret to hide...

While the plot offers nothing original, the visuals and the atmosphere of the island are enough to make this film unique. Everything is over the top and dramatic, sometimes even too much, but there is a valid reason behind it. Scorsese depicts the Ashecliffe Hospital as seen from Teddy's eyes.

If you are already familiar with this kind of film, there are so many clues and explicit explanations that it will pretty easy to solve the mystery yourself. It feels like Scorsese actually wants you to figure it out yourself. Not knowing until the end definitely makes it more fun, but I actually enjoyed my rewatch as much. I noticed a lot of details that did not stand out at first.

Okay so I am probably in the minority here, but I did not enjoy this film. It felt like it dragged on for wayyyy tooooo looooong. The twist was clever I will admit that, but by that point I had kind of switched off.
