My expectations weren't high so I was not disappointed. The lore is cool but would have derserved more screentime to make sense. As it is, there are plotholes and unexplained stuff, coincidences a bit too on the nose, that kind of things.
Characters were not exactly surface-level, but there is something that didn't feel right with me. Everything happened too fast maybe.[spoiler]Their wishes were weidly short-sighted and small considering they believed in the 'magic' of the dreaming realm. I mean, school president ? Come on.[/spoiler]
It could have been better in a series format, or it could have been another Locke and Key, who knows ?
Otherwise, I liked the international accents sprinkled all over, and I even like that there was no reason for them.
This was an enjoyable enough movie that I was not looking for and that I'll forget as quickly as it appeared on my suggestions.
Overall, it felt like a meh book adaptation ; it has all the signs of it : world feels deeper than what we have time to see on screen, everything happens too fast, girl main character and a hord of guys with a love interest, very classic book title as movie title. Also, but that might be only the german presence, this made me think of the Red Ruby movies a lot. (PS : I checked and this is indeed a YA book adaptation from the same author as the red ruby books ! I feel so validated.)
