Ben Cooper and his family are struggling to get a grip on household chores, school and work. So when Ben sees that a Smart House is being given away, he enters the competition as often as he can, until they eventually win the house (named Pat). After moving in, Pat's personality begins to radically change, and the family starts to resent her.

I was worried this movie wouldn't hold up, since I hadn't seen it since the '90s. Boy, did it ever. This movie draws inspiration from smart sources, including some of the best of sci-fi and horror, and makes them approachable and fun for kids! The acting is top notch, especially from top-billed Katey Sagal, a television veteran and a sympathetic foil. If you like Disney Channel movies at all, or if you remember this one fondly, you had better give Smart House a second chance.

With such films it is nice to see what they thought about the future at that moment. Other than that, very little happens in the film. Only at the end does it become exciting

Presented cropped to 16:9 on Disney+, sadly. This '90s production obviously wasn't shot to be widescreen-safe. I'm thankful that I found the original aspect ratio still available on DisneyNOW, for the time being.
