The first 20 minutes of this movie is a one shot of pure Nicolas Cage deliciousness. Then both Nic and the movie take a passive role as you wait in vain for something that resembles life to happen on screen. I am as disappointed as you are watching this movie.

"It isn't lying! You just tell them what you did right, and you leave out the rest!"

The first 15 minutes are great. Following Nicolas Cage through the arena. Great stuff.

Anyway this Brian de Palma conspiracy thriller is a fun film with a great Nicolas Cage in the lead. The real bad guy is one you can see coming from a mile away and it is revealed pretty early in the movie but that doesn't take away anything at all. It still interested to see these two characters square off.

The best thing though is the ending. I love that Rick (Nicolas Cage) still gets a kind of shitty ending with his wife and girlfriend running away and everyone knowing he took bribe money during his career. I loved the fact that he didn't redeem his awfulness as a Atlantic City cop by saving the day.

Anyway Snake Eyes is far from Brian de Palma's best work but it still a worthy 100 minutes to check out.

Watch carefully. Director Brian De Palma crafts a gripping thriller with Snake Eyes. When the Secretary of Defense is shot during a boxing title fight Atlantic City cop Rick Santoro discovers a conspiracy that rocks him to the core. Nicolas Cage, Gary Sinise, and Carla Gugino all give good performances. And De Palma does a good job at setting up the mystery and building suspense. Still, parts of the film are messy and the tone is unbalanced at times. Yet while it has a few problems, Snake Eyes is full of intrigue and remarkably entertaining.

The first 10 minutes (false) long take is really what make me love Brian De Palma. The way he's using the camera. A genius !!!

Nice flick! One doesn't realize that Commander Dunne is responsible for the assassination until one is told. I also liked the ending where Rick gets honored for saving the "woman in white" but has to go to prison anyway because of his past as a corrupt police man.

If you liked the movie, why are you ONLY ruining the ending, and not giving ANY useful information? Also, all the twists were obvious.

@gddgb: didn't you see the big fat SPOILER ALERT sign? I am sorry if I ruined the movie for you, but there is a reason for those alert signs. <br /> To come back to your question: keeping Dunne's involvement a secret from the audience without creating holes in the plot I found the best aspect of the movie, that's why I mentioned it (and, along with the saving of the "woman in white", only it ) in my comment.
