Americans saying that "original" was better than this one. Little do they know that "Alive" wasn't the first film about this accident. Actually, a mexican movie released in 1976 was the first one ever made and it wasn't bad at all.

Yes, this version is slow paced and with less action than previous movies, specially the american one, but technically and emotionally is way above the first two movies. J. A. Bayona goes deeper in the emotional part of each character, this time, using the real names of the survivors, besides, it was filmed in part in the same spot where the accident took place. Hey, we even have cameos of some of the survivors.

Sorry, but people saying this "remake" is bad, is just lazy people that don't like to read subtitles. This movie will be nominated for an Oscar, I can tell you that.

Excellent movie. Very emotional and shocking. It should easily win the Oscar for best foreign film.

@medinaandrez i disagree with "easily" considering that THE ZONE OF INTEREST and FALLEN LEAVES are also amazing films

Just another reg-urge remake to make a little money on the next generation. The original is much better and this story is the type that can only be told once. ALIVE [1993] https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106246/

@turkkildare I didn't see "alive" so I'm not going to comment on whether it is a better or worse movie but the survivors said that they added and changed events and it is not faithful to what really happened, unlike this version in which the survivors had direct participation in its production to the point of having cameos in the film

Alive! is typical Hollywood bullshit sensationalistic retelling of a true story. Have you even seen this film or are you just being reactionary?

@turkkildare It's the exact opposite of what you are saying. There are interviews of the survivors stating that this one is way more representative of their story than the Hollywood one.

@turkkildare the difference is that what you call the original was written by a person who wasnt in the Ands and the survivors even rejected that version, while this one has been written while the survivors told the story, few of them have been advising during the filming directly to the director, including the appearance of 6 of them in the movie.

What a fucked up cannibalistic orgy this was.

Terrifying, horrific, disturbing, claustrophobic and emotional. Everything about this movie is simply magnificent, from all the amazing performances, set design, fantastic hair & makeup(shout-out to them) and flawless writing. I have to mention the plane crash scene, wow honestly I can't think of a better shot than any other movie I've seen to date.
The ending got me real good :sob:.

Even if you think you know this story, it was so well done that you feel so much -- the harrowing fear, the overwhelming despair, the bittersweet hope, the anger of the unfairness, the grief, the awe in the face of nature, the uncertainty. Excellent performances and use of the environment. Some interesting choices made to draw a line between faith, survival, community and personal moral code. I cried at the end.

Well, this one just really pulls at your heartstrings. Really well filmed and acted, you really get to care about the characters and feel the desperation with them.

Easy recommendation.

I‘ve read Nando Parrado‘s book years ago and it was an extremely captivating read. When I saw this movie on Netflix I just had to watch it. It is very well done and tells the story quite faithfully as far ad I can tell. Not a fun watch but a story that you just can‘t ignore.

New coat of paint, same old story. If I were to pick a version to keep it would be this one though. It's done in a very emotional and bleak way. It got a few emotional reactions out of me but what was holding me back from the full experience was the familiarity with the story. You just know how all of this is going down and it's all the same themes. It's a stunning movie, there's no doubt about that. Love the wide shots showing us how small the characters are compared to the vast ice age. The characters all look the same (haircuts, height, build) so it's difficult to tell them apart but I liked the team aspect and them working together to survive. The plane sequence and the avalanche are the most terrifying things i've seen this year for sure and it'll unlock a new fear of airplanes. Very long. Satisfying and touching ending. A good watch.
