My love for giant monster movies was satisfied by this creative little Ishiro Honda/Toho film. The action starts immediately when an alien mist turns a space capsule on its way to Jupiter around and floats it back to Earth. The alien mist eventually possesses a cuttlefish, a crab and a turtle, growing them to massive size. Each of the beasts take their turn attacking a survey crew, who certainly have the benefit of lots of firearms and gasoline for being stranded on a tropical island.

Together with the island's natives, the crew defeats each of the monsters and turns back the alien mist. It doesn't involve atom bombs or military might, just some grit and determination...oh, and massive amounts of luck and amazingly accurate assumptions.

The cuttlefish was a creative kaiju effect and the crab was well done. The turtle was neither. While each of the monsters were large, they weren't Godzilla or Gamera sized. None of them would have been much of a challenge for an army and they wouldn't have been capable of toppling a skyscraper. Grass huts, yes. Tokyo tower, not so much.

There were a few drawbacks including a terrible dub and a story that ends in the same fashion as several other kaiju movies.
