For me, a horror movie meets its purpose when it makes you feel something in your gut, in this case, it made me feel quite an uncomfortable feeling. Bad decisions have bad consequences. Very well acted, and while it's a slow burn on the first act, you'll get your reward on the end of the second act, and definitely on the third and shocking act. Quite unsettling movie, but I loved it.

There's absolutely no possible way that this plot could have happened a South American.

This was so uncomfortable. It took a bit of a toll on me, watching these characters go against every basic instinct and gut feeling. So, eventually, I just gave up. My first thought when the credits rolled was: "well, that's what you get, you absolute idiots."

There's no amount of politeness in the world that could make me override my survival instincts, so this is one of the few horror movies where I can confidently say: that shit would NOT happen to me. No child has ever died from feeling a little sad, so the bunny can suck it.

Pointless and dumb. I get the message that the movie wants to portray, but it's still idiotic.

A treat for anyone who enjoys dark cinema this was truly hard to watch at times almost as much as *Funny Games*. Definitely not for everyone lots of abuse and some nudity in here. The performances were so good! There's lots of stupid decisions and actions taken by characters though. I like that there's some parts you can't understand unless you speak dutch (no subtitles) it adds authenticity and realism as I felt like I was foreign just like the characters. It starts as a slow burn with people ignoring red flags, then gradually becomes discomforting and sickening until you're left absolutely jarred by the third act.

This creeps up on you and then slaps you in the face. The reveal happens and you go "holy crap, oh... that's what that was for... oh, my, god." The clues are ALL there. I'm one of those people that completely misses them and looks back and goes "oh yeah". But, I think that's a GOOD thing :-) Stick with it, it's slow and moody then gets really real. Nicely done! 7/10

Like Eighth Grade meets The Strangers with a dash of Funny Games, Speak No Evil is an awkward, tense slow burn of a movie that will have you cringe and sweat for the majority of its brief runtime. Speak No Evil directly attacks the polite agreeance that we all find ourselves doing daily to make everything go smoothly during normal social interactions. Our own boundaries of acceptance are pushed and redrawn as we just try to stay polite and not be a bother to those around us. It's a difficult emotion/feeling to convey on film and Speak No Evil nails it. Next time you find yourself awkwardly nodding to an acquaintances suggestion, ask yourself if you really want to do what they're asking, or if you're only doing it to appease them. Uncomfortable but though provoking viewing. Those who can stomach the bleak subject matter will be rewarded with a solid social horror.

The importance of boundaries...

This movie is a good movie to show people what can go wrong when not setting boundaries and keeping them. I was angry at the end that they did nothing. When the husband ask “why are you doing this?” and the killer says, “because you let me”. That just gave me chills. Because, although harsh, it was the truth. I think the message would've hit a bit harder if the family fought back and won. The ending didn't land and ruined a really good movie.

Sometimes cultural differences become incompatible with life. A leisurely atmospheric thriller hurts a lot at the moment when you start to wonder what is actually wrong here? I also liked that a lot was left unanswered, because no one explains anything to the victims

While similar themes have been portrayed in movies like Funny Games and The Strangers, this one ups the bleakness. The first and second acts get you warmed up to the fact that all isn't what it seems, but the third act really ratchets up the tension. Bleak, jarring, and ever so depressing.

That's what happen when you have a wife and a kid but still lusting over another man or when you're way too polite with people you just met. This horror thriller is extremely unsettling and discomforting yet you really can’t look away because you don't want to miss anything. Although it asks for your patience, it features one of the most awkward social situations I've seen on film and those only help to build to the deeply unpleasant final moments that hit you effectively. The protagonists' dumb decisions make you very frustrated but more compelled to watch.

The message to this movie is quite simple: never agree to stay with people you have only just met! This is a tense and unnerving thriller with a shocking final act that truly disturbed me.

@lee-brown-barrow abso-bloody-lutely. Like my comment, the clues were all there and if the intention was to make a big reveal then it worked perfectly. This was one of those movies that you will never forget... a bit like https://trakt.tv/movies/eden-lake-2008 - superb!
