Spider-Man 3

The movie has nothing to do with the first two. Total Disappointment. There are a lot of things that don't make sense :
1) Where does that black substance come from? Ok, from space, but more specifically?
2) Not something I particularly care about, but why does Peter kiss Gwen? What is the point of "betraying" Mary Jane?
3) Why the fuck does Flint Marko attack Spider-Man if he knows that what he did to Peter's father was an accident? I mean, you've acknowledged you were wrong, you desire forgiveness, and what do you do to make sure you get it? Do you wish to kill him? Okk...
4) Sandman's weakness is also not understood.
Nothing is explained, the ending is rushed. It doesn't have any iconic scenes or scenes that surprised me like the two prequels did (the kiss in the first and the train scene in the second). The only good things are Peter Parker as a bully and the action scenes.

[+] Good humor ; Bully Parker ; action scenes
[-] A lot of things don't make sense; enemies are not memorable (like Octopus) and not even character-developed; the ending was done in a hurry; a lot of useless scenes, which only lengthen the movie but with a content not essential to the story

It’s really dated. It still has that early 2000’s comic book film feel to it, but this came out in 2007, after _Batman Begins_, and it wouldn’t be long until _Iron Man_ and _The Dark Knight_ would evolve the genre again.
It has a lot of the same pros and cons of the first two.
The action is still mostly good, cinematography and music are great, JK Simmons kills every scene he’s in, it has a lot of style and atmosphere, but it’s also way too corny, poorly acted and some of the characters are extremely annoying (and definetely not worth saving for a third time!)
It’s funny to me that everyone keeps making fun of emo Peter in this in particular, when there’s some stuff in the other Raimi films that’s way cornier than that.
To me, the main problem that this film has over the other two is how unfocussed it is.
You can do a story with multiple villains in the same film, just look at the Nolan Batman movies, but trying to give all of them equal weight, or their own plot, isn’t a very good idea.
This truly feels like watching three different movies at the same time, and none of them are given the proper time to develop.
The Sandman plot doesn’t feel earned and just thrown in there; the Harry Osborn plot is rushed and has that extremely lazy scene with the butler; and the Venom plot takes a really long time to become relevant.
Also, while the CGI is quite bad in all three movies when compared to other films of the time, this one in particular went overboard and did some stuff that could’ve, and should’ve, been done practically.
For example: the first fight with Harry Osborn, while creative and pretty well choreographed, is a visual mess.

_**SPIDER-MAN 3**_
Nailed it, bailed it or failed it?
Let’s play!

-----

**Writing: FAILED IT!**
Lazy writing; stupid tinkering with the plot
(rewriting Ben’s death and the decision to give Harry amnesia)
; terrible character arcs for Harry Osborn and Eddie Brock; the unforgivable villain problem (THREE new villains in one film and an absolutely terrible Venom); the romantic tensions between Peter and MJ that still go nowhere and the unnecessary introduction of Gwen Stacy as a supporting character. Oh, and don’t even get me started on that horrifying Peter-goes-emo thing.

**Characters and Acting: BAILED IT!**
Maguire and Dunst are still stiff in their parts but at least I started to believe in them as a couple.
Sandman is the best-handled villain and Hayden Church fits the part well. **James Franco** ruins his take on Harry Osborn and his turn into the Goblin makes little sense and means nothing until the end of the film. **Topher Grace** is miscast as Eddie Brock and gives us an annoying performance, coupled with a terrible misuse of fan-favourite Venom.

**Direction: NAILED IT!**
**Sam Raimi** knows his franchise and his characters (well, apart from Venom, but that’s really not his fault).

**Visuals: BAILED IT!**
We get bigger and more inventive actions scenes, but they’re also messy, shaky and surprisingly plastic-y.
Parts of the film look like an over-the-top video game, which is odd considering that the CGI works fine otherwise.

**Sound: NAILED IT!**
The score is still as awesome as always.

**Pacing: FAILED IT!**
It just doesn’t work. They set up things that go nowhere until much later in the film; the final act comes from nowhere and leads to nothing. The quieter dramatic parts are actually he best parts of the film, which says lot of who badly they treated Spidey and the villains.

**Themes: FAILED IT!**
With great power comes a black suit and great emo-bility. ‘Nuff said!

**Atmosphere: FAILED IT!**
The forcibly darker tone and terribly handled depressiveness of the film is laughable. After the black suit is introduced, it stars going downhill very fast – they make Peter cringeworthy and give us the worst scene in any super hero film ever (hint: the scene contains dancing).
I get that they’re trying to portray the tough time Peter is going through emotionally, but the way it is illustrated is stupid, silly and not very believable.

**Rewatchability: FAILED IT!**
Not really, but I’m probably still going to.

**Expectations: FAILED IT!**
Well, it’s a HUGE let-down after (the amazing) _Spider-Man 2_.

-----

**Bottom line: BAILED IT!**
It's a bit of a mess and fails to impress the way _Spider-Man 2_ did, but at least it's never boring and still quite enjoyable.

They had too many concepts that they tried to cram in one movie that it ended up being an awkward mess.

Tobey Maguire isn't good at being bad. Don't get me wrong, he played a great Spider-Man in the first two films but he just isn't cut for being evil.
