It was terrible on so many levels. _Spiral_ is supposed to reinvent the franchise but I don't see any original idea in here. It rushes through a painfully predictable plot. Chris Rock is annoying as hell! He plays the worst detective ever, or he just can't act. The rest of the cast is weak. They don't have enough personality to make me care about. It also doesn't push the gore to its usual limits. The traps are very underwhelming and the torture sequences are too short. I don't even care if the victims will make it out alive or not. The twist is too painfully obvious, I literally saw it coming from miles away. The killer's trying to imitate Jigsaw voice is honestly laughable. He sounds so stupid and not even intimidating. It could've been enjoyable if there's no _Saw_ thrown into the mix. This film clearly didn't meet the expectations.

Terrible.

1. The twist of the killer was super obvious, I guessed it about 20 mins in to the film
2. Not really many death scenes
3. Chris Rock was just too over the top
4. Not enough character development around Zeke and his dad

i thought chris rock played his role well. unfortunately, the games were just deathtraps with no real way out, which kind of goes against the spirit of things imo

The ending is really very :asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol:unsatisfying:asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol:, even for a SAW movie.

They should rename the franchise Seen, because we've seen it all before.

Not the best of the Saw films, but better than most of them.

How is it possible to make such a bad acted movie with such big named actors? I don't get it...
Even Samuel L. Jackson felt like a horrible actor in this movie... How?!
The new jigsaw voice is annoying AF!
Its filmed so weird, strange angles, no chemistry between the actors, awkward pauses during a conversation, stupid music and sounds, bad script, boring...
I used to love the Saw franchise! But this is just a huge disappointment.

Beautifully done. I loved how it started. I hope the next one is gorier.

It was intense, violent, disturbing at some point and most important a harsh truth & that's what we expect with a Saw movie. I missed that jigsaw puppet introduced in the previous parts but it was okay, a little change is acceptable.
Definitely a good watch but don't watch it without finishing the previous parts, it will ruin everything.
Rating are lower than I expected and that's okay for me because saw movie are some kind of creepy and disturbing all the time, no matter how mysterious and suspenseful they are.
Excited to see more upcoming sequels of Saw series, don't miss the title track named 'Spiral' at the end while watching the movie....that is :fire::fire:

Why did the writers think we fucking care about the personal life of a detective who is not any connection with the previous films and played by Chris Rock with terrible acting and ridiculous goatee? Also, the killer was so predictable.

I think the core endgame of this movie will hit with a lot of people and help sell it but by god is it a bad movie overall. Chris Rock is completely fine when he’s essentially doing stand up bits to other characters and completely trash when he is trying to sell himself as some sort of tough detective or even a person having emotion. The main idea is to make a really bad Seven style movie, starring Chris Rock that is interspersed with Saw traps and sprinkle some terrible performances on top. It’s like a fake movie you’d see in some other Chris Rock movie.

It is not a Saw movie starring Chris Rock, but a Chris Rock movie with Saw traps. The tone is closer to the police movies and introduces a certain social criticism (the saga referred to the unjust health system) which is that all white police are corrupt and almost all black police are not. The reboot resurrects the saga by eliminating the claustrophobia and truculence that made the first film something different.

Spiral has all the cliche aspects of a cop movie with a cop who doesn’t play by the rules. Who gets stuck with a partner. As well as take the case of who killed his friend. Sound familiar ?
To me it sounds like any 80’s or 90’s cop movie. Which it seems like Chris Rock was going for. Since he has called Spiral, Saw but with Axel Foley.
Except Axel Foley if he was after a Jigsaw copycat killer. Which of course is gory and unpleasant to watch at times since it is Saw. So maybe he should have left the comedy at home ? Or just made an action buddy cop comedy.
His character has one liners in the beginning but feels like Chris Rock being Chris Rock. The rest of the movie which calls for him to be more serious. Is like he had serious looking eye brows glued on. With him as a wannabe Dirty Harry.
Rock’s performance isn’t spectacular but the movie did keep my attention. Due to the cop killer plot and who the killer might be. Despite, like I said very little originality.

Saw is back, with a vengeance.

Spiral fits the bill nicely... it doesn't waste time, it is extremely gory and makes you smile for all the wrong reasons.

Very satisfying... 7/10.

Basically true to the Saw franchise format, with a social narrative regarding police, and Chris Rock throwin' in a few funny jabs along with emotional acting.

Hollywood really is dead and it'll only get worse.

What a poor script. Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger tried to create a story with an amazing plot twist and they didn't get it at all. It was pretty obvious since half the movie who the killer was. They ruined what could have been an interesting movie just because they needed to make a bloody film.
